For Immediate Release
Contact: Rod Short, Director of Marketing & Public Relations, 434-822-7700 x 112, rshort@virclub.com
Danville, VA <October 27, 2010> VIRginia International Raceway today announced that Kerrigan Smith will assume the title of Director of Track Operations beginning November 1st, 2010. Between now and year's end, Kerrigan will be transitioning into this role from his position as the acting General Manager of Synergy Racing, which is based in the RacePlex at VIRginia International Raceway.
"I am very humbled and honored to represent one of the best road racing tracks in the world," Kerrigan said. "I feel that each step in my professional career has led to this current position. I look forward to contributing to the owner's vision and expectations of VIR."
A native of Richmond, VA, Smith spent eight years at what is now known as Synergy Racing where he has risen through the ranks. During his time there, Kerrigan was directly involved in the team's Grand Am national road racing championships in 2005-06 as well as in the design & building of all of the team's Porsche 997 race cars.
"From our large spectator events to the kart tracks and off-road trails, it's all about dealing with the people and the details in a friendly, knowledgeable manner," said Connie Nyholm, Managing Partner of VIR. "Kerrigan is the perfect match for us and we are extremely excited about him joining our team as Director of Track Operations. If it has wheels, he'll find a welcome home for it."
Kerrigan currently resides in Greensboro, NC with his wife Kathleen and daughter Addison where they are expecting their second child early next year.

I just got off the phone with Mark Francis and he told me about Scott's post. I can not thank you all enough for the overwhelming support and kind words. It means a lot, really does. VIR has such a great team established already that I am just honored to make the cut. I look forward to seeing you all out at the track and hopefully you guys will still see me roaming around the paddock; just in a different uniform.
And Scott - maybe now i will have time to hang out and catch up at one of your little garage parties
