Default Defensive driving (my crash video)

So we had a 4 hour endurance race on Saturday and ended up spending 45 minutes of it pulling the car back together after an old piece of **** Opel T-boned me. I had only been on the track for 3-4 laps and we were kind of playing cat&mouse with this guy. He was running in a different class, a little bit slower car but with slicks vs. hankook semi-slicks on our car.

Watch this video and note the lines the guy is taking with the yellow opel.
In the first bend I was aware that he was diving deep and let him get past me but in the last turn I was sure he was behind me and was taking a more defensive line. Whatch what happens:

DAMN. What a bunch of low probability moves he made. Sorry...

Your E36 makes a bunch of power....wow.

Ouch! And he hit you, what? 3 times?

Sorry to see that, especially since you weren't racing each others!

It would be one thing if he hit you just once, but it's pretty ridiculous of him to not back off and impact you two more times in the same incident. This is a good example of people who take club racing way too far.

What, did he keep his foot in it in an attempt to roll you over?

I know, I built the engine with my own hands for the 2009 season. After two seasons of endurance racing (and two 24hour races) it is still pulling strong.

Yes, three times. And you didn't hear the best part yet; I went to have a chat with this driver afterwards and his only thoughtwas that I had ruined his race by cutting in front of him...lol!!!

Don't worry Chuck, the 993 is safe and well. It's in the midst of Motec conversion as we speak...

Wow, in an endurance race, really? Those moves are for the last lap of a championship race (at best), not at the start of an enduro.

"Gee, if I dive bomb him for the next 4 hours straight, I win!"

I nearly lost an endurance series champsionship by a similar move in the 6th corner of a 3 hour race. Good pitwork, and lots of tape to hold in the rear taillight salvaged the day, and the season.

Hopefully the powers that be sanctioned this guy appropriately. NASA suspended the offender in my case. This stuff has no place in endurance racing.

I guess he could have backed off as you guys entered the corner, and that probably would have been the prudent thing to do, but he probably *assumed* that you knew where he was and that you'd go two-wide into the turn, leaving him room. I know you said that you were sure he was behind you...

One other thing - I'm not familiar with that track, but at the :30 mark, it seems that he's letting the car unwind as he exits the turn and you're pinching it. I've been just DE'ing lately, and haven't raced in a few years, so maybe my eyes are just a bit rusty...
