The excitement of the video was exceeded only by the magnanimity of your sportsmanship.

That was a class act.

...and will reap you rewards sometime later.

Speaking of sportsmanship, a little birdie mentioned that one of the guys who mixes it up at the front end of that SM grid with these guys won the Mustang shootout, and is getting the ride at Miller this weekend with Grand Am. Congrats to Dean!

Oh, and the Porsche angle is that he and his wife started out time trialing with an then-not-so-old torsion bar era cab.

Man I've never raced but that was fun and just watching, can't imagine how fun could it be being in your seat.
for giving the lead back and then phenomenal move to take it back
What was going on through the esses? The other car seemed faster. Was it because the different line in turn 7 or just different car setup?

You know, im changing my position here after watching the incident over a few times. I think its not sportsmanship, or being nice, or sweet, it was patty cake. ITS RACING FOLKS! someone cuts you off, slams the door, in a close battle and they BETTER expect to get hit. he did that , you did everything you could to avoid him and he got tapped and slid out. BIG DEAL! You got by fair and square and now, you let him by because you want to make a clean pass to prove dominance. well, that kind of sucks for him, because now, that he has been "owned" you let him by , so you can just "OWN" him again. what a dry victory if he did win because now, he knows you just "let" him by . For me, that would suck! I dont want any gifts, or any politeness out there! ITS RACING!! No GIFTS! and heck, you race in a class called, "Spec Pinata"!!

Now, if you pass under yellow, or do something to gain an unfair advantage, sure, give the place back, but there are rules usually for that, so if you didnt, you might get a penalty anyway.

Now, great moves, great video, but dont do that again! thats not sportsmanship, thats warm milk paddycake racing

Wouldn't he be DQ'd if he passed under yellow? Giving it back wouldn't be an option, would it?

Sometimes it is. it depends on the way it happens, and the judgement call by the cornerworkers.

He should get a 13/13 for that move. (not the hit, but the point by! )
scca spec miata is full contact. He should be forced to run with POC for a few races, until he gets his eye of the tiger back and bumps someone.

Are passing rules optional under the yellow flag in SCCA Spec Miata?

Hey, hey, hey... we gave out 2 or 3 13's at Laguna. We've actually been really trying to eliminate the stupid contact that has permeated amateur racing of late. Weren't you listening during the driver's meetings? Oh wait, you were standing next to me giggling at the guy getting a hand job from his wife eek: ....

I think you are missing the point. sometimes you come up on a corner and are focused on your opponent, he might see the yellow, you dont, and fly by and immediately see the yellow, and then back out of it, barely completing the pass and then point the passed car back in front of you . This is a judgment call on the corner worker. yellow means no passing, but the act of the "pass" can be interpreted. Maybe a better interpretation would be cutting a corner through a part of the infield, and then letting the guy you passed by cutting the corner go by. Hows that?

It is ultimately up to the drivers to be safe and to use good judgment. One situation is when a pass has started before the flag stand as the yellow comes out. The passing driver can often find themselves in a situation where it is far more dangerous to slam on the brakes to abort the pass than to complete it under "yellow". There are other situations but that is a pretty clear one.

Every SCCA steward and corner worker I know would understand that the pass was the right thing to do and would be OK if the position was given back.
