Wondering if I am going to have a problem running headers and a short pipe on my stock 993 3.6. Anyone feel confident in guessing? How do they measure it? I downloaded an app for my IPhone. Is it a 50 feet, 100 feet, 6 inches? I assume it's a drive-by type situation as well. I have turn downs, will that help? Should they be pointed in any specific direction? TIA

What group / region is forcing that rule?

The three vintage events alone surpass that level with every run group.

I've been there before and had zero issues with my setup. 993tt with straight pipes off the turbo's. Its gotta be louder than 103 but no one enforced it.

Away from the meter. Only being half facetious.

Many race cars at Roebling use the method of installing a 90 degree angle adapter to the pipes and turn it away from the meter. Mornings more likely to be a problem than afternoons.

They must have the DB meter mounted on the roof of the VIP tower

Most clubs measure from 50 feet away. My 3.8 hits 106 at Barber unmuffled. With ssssupercraps its atleast below 104 because I've never been hit with a sound infraction.


Just find where they are measuring sound and point the turn downs away from the meter or shift gears at the meter. You could also get creative with brillo pads and chicken wire....

Thanks guys. Hopefully the sound checker will be in an obvious location. I am never at more than 1/4 throttle anyway.

Traditionally sound station for SCCA is drivers left after T3 at Road America. Not sure what PCA will do.

PCA uses the SCCA sound tester.

I had no problem last year with straight pipes off my '73 2.7 although no guarantees that they won't be enforcing this year. I was told by friends who were standing next to Siebkens that they could hear me back off as I turned back into Road America last year, after the Saturday night drive back from the Siebkens street concours.....

When I've stewarded there we only had one problem, when the sound tester inexplicably moved closer to the track, and after asking her politely to move back, the problems went away.

No guarantees but I doubt you'll have a problem.
