Here's a video of a nice battle between my 968 and a 944 S2:

Great video, pretty fairly matched. You clearly were able to do a lot of late braking.

Jim - fun video. Do you know if Turek's car was running the M030 front brakes? And seemed his ABS was not working.

You running hoosiers? Surprised they were lasting the 90 minutes w/o getting obviously greasy. My turbo is typically sliding all over, even by the end of a 40 minute sprint.

Ever do much racing against any of Karl's cars or the AutoEdge cars? Up in my neck of the woods, the S2s have some advantage over the heavier 968s. Im just not certain how much the level of prep differs between the cars I am seeing, the S2s are very developed and I am not sure the 968s have the same amount of $$ put in them yet.

What is the reputation of AutoEdge, see two of there cars for sale, one on craigslist and one on ebay. But both look to have a bolt in cage which I don't think is legal any more, or at least need 2 door bars on the drivers side. But both are out of my budget. Why is it I can find tons of 944T from 9k~12k but all the s2 or 968 seem to all be north of 20k?

Hell, PCA E class has almost become "Spec 944 S2 class." There are tons of them racing and most of them are very competitive.

AutoEdge has a very good local/regional reputation with 944s and specifically S2s.

Bolt in cages are legal in PCA. Double door bars are not yet required.

9k-12k 944Ts are "DE" cars. PCA Club Race prep'd and class E or F competitive turbos are normally going to be in the 20K+ range, very similar in price to the S2s and 968s. But because of the current market, there are some very good deals on race cars, so shop around.

I will have to go back and reread the rules again, but then again its one of those piece of mind things on the cage. Don't think I would be comfortable with a bolt in, then again you could have a crappy weld in also. Just things to watch for.
Should be good set of races in the E class to watch then at RA.

Nice driving Jim..... Great to see some "Friendly" competition among the front engine water pumpers.

I believe he does have the M030 brakes, but you're very observant. He broke a stub axel at the end of qualifying, and the repair left the ABS non-functional for the race.

Yes, I run Hoosiers. They definitely start to go off after the first 20 minutes or so. It helps a lot to adjust the pressures during the pit stop, and with my setup the fronts and the rears tend to go off pretty evenly.

I've raced against Karl's cars, and beaten a few of them, but not in my car when Karl is driving. He's an excellent driver, and does a fantastic job setting his car up to suit his driving style. At the Mid Ohio PCA race in May Karl's S2 in SP3 trim was blindingly fast. Nobody could touch him. The only time I ever beat Karl was in Sebring when I was co-driving Gary Grigsby's 968 and we beat Karl and his co-driver in their 944 S2.

Prep level and setup for a particular track makes a huge difference. I'd say both cars have their advantages, weight for the S2, torque and gearbox for the 968, etc. But I think those things are trumped by prep level, which was why I recommended buying best example of either car that is available.
