Default 944s2 or 968 as a E class?

I'm looking to get into club racing, been doing DE's over the last ~3 years, some years ago I did race karts. Pretty much narrowed my search down to either a prebuilt 944s2 or a 968 that I would want to run in the E class. Yes I know the turbos but decided I wanted to stay NA. Yes I looked at the SM and 944spec, and there is a good group of guys in this area in the 944spec.
Thoughts Recommendations?
Anyone know of any E cars for sale in the midwest?
Thanks,

In my experience the 944 S2 and the 968 are pretty much equal in performance in E class. If I were you I would buy the best race prepared example of either one that I could find. If you had your choice between the two with equal levels of preparation I would expect the 944 S2 to be a bit cheaper, so that's the way I would go.

That's me, what I've been DEing with, but I really don't want to race it. Too much of an attachment to it, I've owned that car sense 88. Now its pretty close to race ready, put twice the value in parts into it, damn slippery slope, don't want to do that again, it was more of a free fall. If I was smart back then I would never touched it and just bought the race car to start with. Lastly its a Targa.

I'd seriously look at the 944 cup replica that's for sale here. Dan's car. It'll race in G, and Chicago has quite a nice G crowd.

The S2 or 968 is also a good candidate for NASA GTS which also has a solid presence in the midwest/great lakes region. There are events at Blackhawk, Audobon and Gingerman. The Audobon event is in September, check the website and come on out to see what it's about.

There is a also a well prepared S2 available in the classifieds.

Thanks,
944-spec is much cheaper to run than E stock. The reason is mostly due to tires. 225/50 R15 RA-1 vs 285/35 18 Hoosiers.

Ok beyond that the 968 or S2 is faster. Each of these cars is pretty good for PCA stock and many people have run them like this with great sucess.

The S2 is a great car, but I'd choose the 968 all else being equal. The 968 has a significant torque advantage which will haul out of corners better than the S2, and a six speed tranny that can also make a big difference on some tracks.
I battled with a well driven 968 for a full season in 944SuperCup, and the racing was extremely close. We ended up 6 points apart in over 300 points. Believe me, those things have a real torque advantage over the TurboS!

Do you mean Autobahn? Or is there somewhere called Audobon? I've been to Autobahn and it's a nice setup.

There are 2 great cars for sales right now, 1 is a G class 944 Super Cup replica and the other is a F class 968. I know both owners and the cars are well built and selling for pennies on the dollar. Check out the RL classifieds.

Good luck....

Thanks everyone for the input. The turbo G class is a beautiful car but just don't want a turbo. I will be up to TRAC to scope out the E class, watch the racing, and participate in the DE.

I wasn't trying to be a dick. Since I'm from down here I just wasn't sure if there was another track as you guys are blessed with so many. Very jealous of that fact. Seems like every town has a track in the U.S. We've got 2 in our state. One in the city of Sydney (pop. 5 million).

To the subject. I am of course partial to the turbo, but being realistic I think going the n/a way is safer. Turbos have the potential to be more fun IMHO, but also more...another word beginning with 'fu....'

Turbos are fine if run stock. They are oh so easy to warm up with bolt-on bits, but that when the reliability can get sketchy. A rock solid engine before the mods helps a lot.

Having raced against both, the 968 would be my choice. If there was a nicely set-up S2 then the call would be closer.
