If I just want the one on the far left would it be cheaper?

You did not specify with or without the shots That is why people get different cost.

I've decided to accept the middle girl also as part of the deal but I am keeping my spare set of CCW's.

spec 996 could be a nice series that fits well between spec boxsters and GT3 cups.

however for that $10-12k you could also put a 3.4L, aero and new shocks on a spec boxster and I would think the mid-engine car would outperfrom the rear-engine car.

Well the idea is to have a class of rear-engined cars that are all the same so that the competition is about the driver rather than the platform or how deep your wallet is. How a 3.4L boxster performs is irrelevant imho.

May as well toss in a cup car motor, Motons, slicks, and sequential shifter too!

Sure, but who are you going to race against? Part of the appeal of SpecBox is the large field of competitors. It's a blast to have a dozen or more cars in the same class racing together. It's like spec miata without the carnage...

Tim, the SPBOX class seems appealing to me, I would be interested in knowing how you (and Mike I.) built your cars without spending a fortune.....

PM is fine......thanks......

Agreed. That's why I have one!

With the "new normal" economy we'll prob see this class grow quite nicely - a large class with respectful drivers, great mid-engine handling and very reasonable running costs. However a 3.4L would have been nice last weekend at Laguna Seca going up that hill....

The guys running in the top 3, how much wear/HC are you getting out of your tires? Can you get 2 competitive weekends out of one set?

First, lets clarify just what a "spec" Boxster is before we get way to far into discussing the costs as they varry significantly...

First, a true "Spec" Boxster is built on the 97-99 2.5L Boxster that can be had for 5-12K depending and then they are built using very specific parts designated by "spec" box rules...

When it comes to PCA spec F class cars we start with a 2003-04 Boxster S that run from 18-25K then they are built with a parts list that is far greater than a "spec" car including things like factory hardtop, Moton shocks and a whole host of other parts...

A true spec car, built the way I would do it would cost between $40-50K complete...

I would say look at some of the ones for sale, but look very carefully, not all spec cars are built the same...and they are only as good as the base car was and the person who put it together...

Good luck..!!
I still think the hidden gem in PCA club racing is the Boxster S in F Class. Or the 05 Boxster - non-S - it got the HP bump and seems to be ligher. Pretty deep field and very competitive. You have a lot more room to run the suspension you want. I know that goes agains the whole spec thing to keep costs down.

Anyone can compare the speed of a spbox vs a 944Cup car?

Our cars are getting old... If I had to build another one, maybe the spbox would be nice...

Check out the times from the Glen race, I think the SPBox's were faster than the SP2/944Cup cars but really don't remember..
