Default Potomac Watkins Glen Cancellation, June 25-27

I regret that we will be cancelling our Watkins Glen (WG) DE this year. This was a tough decision on the part of the DE committee; however, it is a fairly long trek for most of our members.

Track management notified us that they will be making repairs for the IRL race and the track surface will need time to cure. The effect of these repairs is that WG will cone off the front straight with cones and tire packs starting at the walk-over bridge near the beginning of the front straight to the apex of T1. This will reduce the track to one lane for almost all of the front straight through the apex of T1. Other factors, there is no passing between T10 and T11. This means for all but the instructor groups, there will effectively be only one lane traffic between T10 and the top of the climbing esses.

WG assured us that this will not affect our date for next year and we still will have the weekend before July 4 and if IRL moves, we have first option on July 4 if there is no professional race.

Sorry to hear... These modifictions are causing G52 to shut down their J 16th-17th dates as well as Zone 1 is stating the same track conditions.

A post on the Niagra DE thread says the event is still on, but mentions the adjustments for T1.

It looks like the actual track work is being done the week of the 14th (first part of). Then they are looking to get the track to cure before the IRL event.

CVR (6/21-6/22) has no mention of it on the ClubReg site but it sure seems likely it will be the same situation.... which sucks.

Default WGI Track Repair

Patroon BMW (14-15) and Group52 (16-17) were cancelled by the track to accomplish the actual repair.

For the following two weeks, all events will run only on the right side of the race track from the exit of T11 until the apex of T1......to allow the pavement to cure.

No big deal, we can pretend we are running two by two on the inside line for practice...
