Old Austin Municipal Airport is now long gone. Turned it into an outdoor shopping mall environment at the north end of the old runways. Not sure what was built closer to where the old terminal used to be. You wouldn't recognize the area unless you frequented 51st Street all the time (I lived under the flight path during college).

I was curious who this Tavo Hellmund guy is, so I Googled & found these:
http://www.racingwest.com/drivers/tavo-ct-hellmund/
http://www.statesman.com/health/cont...26fitcity.html
Sounds like a real racer & interesting guy. But it seems odd to me that his circle track racing was described as "always under-funded", and now he's putting together an F1 GP. Apparently his father promoted IndyCar races.
I hope he's a success with this & makes a ton of money.

I bet it'll be East of town, the West side is too environmentally sensitive, too many nice homes, views, etc...East of 183 would be my guess, bordering on the City, where there are still green fields and ag business.

Wow! Just wow.
I really hope this actually happens. And how cool it would be to have club events at this new facility. It's almost too good to believe. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Congratulations to whoever wins the land sale lottery. Now let's hope:
-- The F1 race each year isn't scheduled for July/August
-- The Austinites don't ban the use of the track for 51 weeks out of the year (noise nuisance, don't you know)
-- They pick a spot w. some ELEVATION! I'm sick of flat, huge, open, boring, characterless new tracks
