Default SCCA Laguna Seca with Pirrelli Cup May 1-2nd 2010

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Huge bummer with Anderson drivng the Pirelli Cup race this weekend.. I drove all the way out there to watch, and torchure myself, by watching the group 1 race. (first SCCA race Ive missed in 8 years ! ) and anderson drops an accessory belt, and his day is done after 2 laps! watched the ITE , (group 1 race) and it was pretty uneventful. my car would have been 2nd barring any mechanicals! RATS! (rylan did break) however, the day before, Rylan did a 40th to 2nd route, with only the times of my car now. Here is the video: pretty cool!
Here he is running 520rwhp but its turbo, so average is around 430-450rwhp if I was to guess. He is running 1:37-8s. Cool seeing him run around a few cup cars in the group too! I think its Atkins (#19, I loaned him my number. ) that he runs up at near 15min on the video. the start is pretty interesting for the first lap, then jump to 15mins where it gets good. There are some Pirelli cup cars in the group. At 19min, there is an NSX, copy of Kip's car, but a little heavier but still in the 550hp range with a newer driver.

Why didnt you tell me you were going, I would have checked it out rather than gabbing with the boys in the paddock!

Yeah just think, after watching that 40th to 2nd performance, you could've watched me turn pole position into a 2nd place finish in SM.

I should have been out there in group 1 to beat up on Dean in his frankenstein Miata with a V8 in it.
I thought a v8 would have been worth more than 5 seconds when stuffed in a miata.

Ill be at the next Laguna Race in June. You going??

Tommy didn't have much choice but to follow me at Thunderhill. Unfortuneately he did much better at LS. We had some good battles, and each gifted the other a position in the Corkscrew.

Dean's still working out a lot of bugs with the V8 Miata. It will definitely be a lot faster once its dialed in.

Yes I'll be at the next LS race.

Yeah, I wanted to see it BEFORE the bugs were worked out. Guess he busted a rear axle. Hmm, we were laughing about this in the paddock. " you mean stock Miata parts cant handle 4x the HP? I thought Miatas were totally over designed"

sounds like you had a good race. Great job!

See you at Laguna in June.

Yep, those are the kinds of bugs he's getting worked out. Probably won't happen again.

Kim - it was nice meeting you at LS. Hope to see you at the next race.

Here's a video of Dean's race and hub failure.

Good job in both races Darin! Nice meeting you too. I'll try and stop by the next LS race weekend...or if you're down this way for the ALMS race, I usually hang out above T2 for the race.

Gee, hope I dont have any 24 year old stock porsche part failures this season! Those brake lines almost cost me my car last year. That was stupid, and that has been fixed on this car. (new SS brake lines all around!)

Thanks for posting the video! awesome footage. I wish I could have been out there. thats my gang!!
anyway, he has a LOT more to work out with that car before it is going to be a force. Hats off to Dean! That little momentum car might work with 100 hp, but with 3 or 400, it sure looks like a handful. 1:40 looks like terminal velocity for it.

that loss of a wheel at turn 6 was a great save.

Ill see you guys at the next laguna race. I just got done building my main set of wheels from the wreck. half way done. what a pain.

lets have a beer at the social in June!! Ill buy!
