Exciting, Well-televised Racing: V8 Supercars, Australia
The race that was aired in Feb for the V8 Supercars - Abu Dabi I think - it was a great show. Why can't F1 be like this? Close racing, plenty of pit stops - and some great car footage of suspensions, wheels, closeups. They even had heart rate monitors on certain drivers (190+ BPM!)
That was a great show. I'd say its even better than rolex.

MUCH better than Rolex IMHO.
IIRC, the rules require that only OEM body panels/bumpers/rear facias be used, albeit over a purpose built frame.
Excellent concept.

They were even talking about the spec wheels only being 500 dollars each. I loved the show - set the DVR to tape the next several races.

These guys can drive for sure. As an Aussie I would say the only thing missing is some variety of vehicles. There is a big groundswell of Ford vs Holden (GM) out here and to say that this groundswell is made up largely of our version of NASCAR fans isn't being unkind. There was a rumour that was quashed as quickly as it arose, that Merc were going to enter into the fray with a V8 once the rules change in 2012. It would be nice to see some other makes go around, but then it would really put pressure on the privateers to sew deeper pockets into their race suits.

V8 supercars is the better aspects of road racing with some of the better aspects of Nascar mixed in.

Though it amazes me how many folks "love" V8 Supercars but think that Grand-Am GT sucks. Grand-Am GT at least has some different marques...BMW (OHC V8), Chevy Vette, Chevy Camero, Mazda RX-8 (with a rotary), Pontiac GTO, Pontiac GXP, and the Ferraris and Porsches in the non-tube frame side.

That particular race may have been the best racing I saw all last year. But I agree that BTCC is almost like that every race (2 times in one show).
The more huge Tube Frame cars that enter Rolex GT, the less interesting it becomes. I mean a Camaro? Really?

F1 should be better than it is. It has all kinds of things going for it but they do not often combine right and result in yelling at the TV viewing.

Although I know that it takes tremendous talent to drive an F1 or a DTM car, it is difficult to SEE the talent because they are so fast and the most amazing F1 move can be virtually invisible to the naked eye (especially on TV).
BTCC and Aussie V8s let you SEE the talent in action. The driver's personality and decisions are expressed through a race car's actions, but in F1 and (to a lesser extent) DTM, you cannot perceive them.
