Visor: have one? Is it closed?
I always wondered about his: for folks with an open-faced helmet and certainly with those with a full-face one,
a) do you have a visor
b) if so, do you keep it up or close it?
BTW, this is WRT a coupe and not an open-top car.
FWIW, I have always used a full-face helmet (TT, not Race group), but always have done so by habit from my motorcycling days. Years ago I was surprised to see so many open-faced helmets in cars, but then again I don't have any knowledge why they choose to do so. But using a full-faced in the car always has left me feeling a bit "stuffy" so I have been driving these years with the visor up (with glasses on). Is this bad? What do you all do, and what is your rationale? Thanks!

FWIW, I've always worn a full face helmet with a sun peak, like this one:

I heard (but that doesn't mean its right) that you want the visor closed while in an airbag-equipped car. The theory is that the bag is supposed to flow up and over the face, and that an open faced helmet (or one with the visor open) will catch the bag and cause unnecessary harm.
Sounds a bit unlikely, as I would think any helmet would catch the bag. Also, I'm not convinced about this flowing idea.
Any thoughts on this concept (which seems relevant to the original post)?
Thanks

It's amazing that little pieces of clag can bounce into the car and potentially hit your eye. I've had several bounce off my cheek, glasses, or visor over the years.
If I'm not wearing sunglasses, then my visor is down. On a hot, sunny day (with glasses on), though, usually open.

Same for me. Usually just cracked the width of the tip of my thumb at the bottom as it's easy to always close it the exact same amount. Only real variation for me is how cold or hot out it is. Usually at winter/late fall events I have the visor pretty much completely closed.

I use a Stand 21 with the shade and not the visor (it can do both). I always wear a protective prescriptive glass under.
After reading Charles Espenlaub's story of his car burning at the 25 hour of Thunderhill, I am seriously considering removing the shade and using the visor. The story is in last month's Grass Roots Motorsports. Without the visor down he would have been severely burned.
