As others have said; "Visor, closed (down) or slightly open at bottom."
I've tried opening it for Yellow laps as Gregg said, but I find that I often don't have enough mental "processing power" to remember to re-close it. So it stays as is.

Dave, I used to be the same way. Way back when I would always have my visor open especially in DEs. When I started racing more and more I decided to get used to wearing it down as I knew it would give me better protection. So I did and I am now used to it. Leave it slightly cracked if you have problems with the airflow. Mine still stays slightly cracked although it is mainly so I can see my dash data easier through the tinted visor.

When you do get a new Iridium (or Caracoat) visor, please try this:

1. Install 3421CP3 - 4 mil thick, 3 layer Clear Shield Protector on the visor.

2. Install 7217C4 - 2 mil Laminated Tearoffs SpeedStack™ 7 (clear) on top of the shield protector.

This prevents the tear offs from rubbing against the coating on the front of the visor and also prevents fuel, etc from coming in contact with the visor or coating.

I did this on my son's Caracoat visors in karting (like open wheel, not a visor friendly environment) and he could run an entire season without damaging the Iridium finish.

Thanks for the feedback, all. As I said, I have glasses on in my full-face helmet, so I don't feel "naked and exposed" to elements, but keeping the visor down but cracked open does make sense in the event of the unexpected incident throwing crud in my face. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Another source for iridium coated visors is Mike Fairholme in the UK. He used to provide CaraCoat however when they went away, he has begun selling his own version known as Shade7.

Good Grief Lewis, as a kart team manager you really put the other dads to shame. My driver was lucky to have a fresh clear visor more than once a season. If there was sun glare, I'd maybe loan him my gatorz since after losing two pairs he didn't have his own.
Nowadays he does own multiple sets of visors but if he wants them changed he's on his own!
