Default Tired of Chatterbox

I already own at least four Chatterbox units and they all suck to a varying degree. I'm tired of both the student and myself saying "what did you say" way too often and usually when you do want yourself heard.
For the new student, too many times they don't have the earpiece by their ear or the microphone by their mouths....

Any suggestions? However, nothing requiring earbuds for the student as they have enough to worry about.

PS

I already use earbuds myself with the adapter I bought on RL

Thanks

I was going to suggest peltor ( http://www.peltor.se/int/Product.asp...&Product_Id=53 ) but that would require helmets with IMSA set up. For the student situation I used chatterbox and it worked OK for me, however for me simple hand signals seemed to work the best with a debriief at the end.

Interested in what others chime in on.

I changed to the NADY PMC-3x and liked it. You can buy the dual earpiece set up, but I just went with the mic and earphone in one set up. Works with radio's as well.

I've been hand signaling and work up a nice, hoarse voice.

Interested in a decent set up that will not be distracting. 1/2 of the wired units I've worked with were utterly distracting.

I've used Chatterbox for many years, and have had to replace parts periodically. I find it MUCH better than Nady, but then again, I don't have much problem with the Chatterbox, especially if both have enclosed helmets. Would love an inexpensive wireless alternative.

Would kill for a better solution, at less than a gazillion dollars!

I've seen systems that use IMSA style plugs and ear buds but these won't work instructing rookies.

I've never really had problems with them. My latest "update" to solve the "oops, I didn't recharge the thing" was to buy a AA battery holder and hardwire it into the unit. Double sided tape sticks it to the unit, and also the dash. Plug in the headsets with an extension cord and all is well. And external AA's are easy to replace when you do forget to recharge.

(I understand this doesn't work when you're riding, but in that case I'm pretty adept at holding the unit myself.............)

I remember the pre Chatterbox years and went through way too many Nadys. They would sometimes just fail for no reason. I plan in some time to instruct the install of the students headphone and boom mike. Getting them not to pull the thing out by the boom or wire is another thing. Best way is to let it fall out when the helmet is removed.

Doesn't Motorola make walkie talkie set with accessory ear buds/mic and VOX (voice activated)? I think so.

ChatterBox is a pain in the ***, but it works for me. But someone seriously needs to invent a bluetooth version--those fvcking tangling cords are a sure cure for sanity.

And those pissy little wires that the students yank out by pulling the damn thing out of the helmet...lost two student headsets this past weekend. Thanks to Kathy P and Dan for lending me theirs.
