I use a Performance Box from V-BOX. Great little self contained GPS based unit does lap timing and then some. http://www.vboxusa.com/performancedrift/

IF the track is running the AMB software you can get a DisplayIT unit for $300 and get true lap timing.

That's a BIG if, I would not do that, anything but depending on a tracks AMB to be in operation, at least on any of the tracks near me.

Did you just call your wife a "basic idiot lap timer"? If so, who are you implying is the one lacking in intelligence.

A Garmin Forerunner 305 works for automatic lap counts and times. It will also map the track but you need a laptop to download the map to.

the 305 is a wristwatch type device, ~$300. Usually it's used by runneres and bicyclists

Uh.. um... I’d like to recant my last statement please.... please replace it with the following...

I married the beautiful, wonderful, love of my life, whom I could never put a price tag on, who happens to get lap times for me (and occasionally reads this forum).

Have you used one on track? I have a 305 for running/cycling. I think it was $150 from Costco...

Just be ready to wrap that around a small robins egg blue box and hand it to her.

yes, it was fine if not as sophisticated as more dedicated units. You just need to set it for autolap.

Yeah I couldn't remember how much I paid, so I high balled it. Most of my use is running and bike where it is the nuts
