I can only hope the other driver is a bit more exciting, but I'm not holding my breath. They need someone with F1 experience. I do understand this from not only a $$ standpoint of sponsorship, but also for marketing--the Hispanic and Latino contingent in the US is huge, and largely untapped by US sports and businesses. This could bring in a ton of Latin/Hispanic American fans to USF1.

Interesting video of Windsor talking about Lopez, even though you can't get around the fact that he would have to be extremely biased: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFvPS...layer_embedded

I am holding my breath for a Kobayahsi like attitude of not being intimidated by the regulars on the grid.

I doubt USF1 will achieve even a small percentage of the success that NA$CAR has enjoyed with their D4D program...which has been little to none.
I doubt US fans will ever care about an American race team fielding a car without fenders, with an Argentinian driver racing everywhere except the USA.
Superlicense and Sponsorship $$$...even if he didn't have a pulse, it would have been the F1 equivalent of Weekend at Bernie's.
Such is the nature of motorsports racing today, from the Junior ranks up to the pinnacle.

Really, I'm not excited about this signing. Lopez couldn't fund his own open wheel racing in Europe, came back to Argentina and races saloon cars for 2 years.
For USF1's sake, I hope they are getting more $$ from Lopez' seat because it's F1 and not a lower Formula, possibly bringing out bigger sponsors, but sheesh.
..
Does Kibort have a ride yet?

As you can see from the videos in the previous post, López is not a slow "pay for drive" pilot he is a very fast driver with good experience in racing single seaters and also saloons.
He has been champion in both types of cars and here in Argentina he is the fastest driver in a country where fast drivers are everywhere.
He needs a good car to show what he is worth, if USF1 develops a good car he will bring results

Its pretty sad that a country as big and rich as the United States can't produce a single qualified and/or financed F1 driver of this caliber, and the "USF1" team has to rely on Argentina for financial backing.

it's because when we go to racing schools and formula car racing series here- they tell us not to try low percentage moves and to play it safe...breeds the wrong kind of racing drivers vs in europe where you have FF2000-F3000 series races with 30+ cars per field- sink or swim boys!
