Aiptek Camera setting summary

Another data point. My camera mount broke at the base of the camera, as I've seen others report. I found a suitable replacement "nut" to mount in the bottom of camera and then taped off the important bits inside with blue masking tape, and then JB Welded the entire affair in place. Seems to have worked like a charm, but we'll see after Sebring next weekend...

The tripod mount is a bit weak for in-car use. Best bet is to support the camera with a simple bracket that prevents the camera from flexing [and eventually breaking] the tripod mount nut from the plastic case. The other advantage of this is it reduces or eliminates the dreaded rolling shutter waviness.
Something like this works for me:

Is your L bracket mounted to the camera mount separately from simply being sandwiched between the mount and the camera?
Gary, I noticed the same thing. I'd say he's heading straight for disaster...

Ha! Its mil spec tape, which is several microns thinner and lighter than the FLAPS stuff you're using, Gary.
The bracket has a clearance hole for the tripod screw. Its sandwiched between the mount and the camera. The bracket is quite firm on the IO Port mount, and the velcro strap clamps the camera body to the bracket.

Well, I still wonder which lens works best when taped to the A-HD+. I have seen mention of a Sunpak and one from Rokinon. I am not sure if there is much of a difference or if there is something that folks have discovered that works better.
For at least the one other Aiptek mentioned here, the Raynox 505 wide angle lens seems to be able to snap on as it has a larger ID lens area.
I bought a Raynox 505 wide angle lens and it almost fits the A-HD+, just not quite. I may modify it slightly to see if it will work. Not sure whether its form factor will allow it to be taped on or not-- haven't yet tried.
As for types of tape... you all kill me. I bought a wide angle lens years ago for my Sony camcorder. Still have it. Came with various adapters to thread onto camcorder. Despite threading it on and using electrical tape to help secure it, it came off more than once on the track. One time exiting turn 9 at Thunderhill... wound up under my gas pedal. Lesson was to check more frequently, especially on a hot day.

Sent an e-mail to Aiptek tech support about the high pitched whine and they had me download a Firmware update. Made a substantial difference and was easy to do. If you have a GVS, I highly recommend it.
Here is my set up with modified mount and the Raynox lense. Plan to use a lapel mic or tape on the internal mic. Will have to see how it goes.
