Default Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona - Pro Driver request

Orbit Racing will be running one Porsche GT3Cup Car at The GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series “24 Hour at Daytona” and the team is looking for two professional drivers with sponsorship, in addition to the two they currently have, to join them in running the race.

If anyone is interested… they can contact Rodger directly and make the arrangements.

Thats racing in the current economy. I heard an advert and sat radio with extolling the benefits of car sponsorship in NASCAR. All series need $$ to feed the beast.

I thought non pro's pay and pro's deliver for payment?

Not that I am a professional driver, or have any kind of sponsorship, but I am curious what kind of sponsorship it would take. I've heard as much as 60K to be one of 4 drivers, unless that is for the non-professional drivers of the same team.

In the very old days a few sets of tires would do it, now who knows I think you might be $40K light.

I'll go as a non pro when Peter sponsors the car.

Yup. In reality, there are probably only 5-7 people in total who will NOT have to pay or bring sponsorship to race in the 24.

These days "pro" doesn't necessarily mean "gets paid to drive". It more likely means "is not a total backmarker in a pro race"....

I suspect the price is not a TRG-like $80k a seat, but more like half that....still a lot.

And I would love to occupy one of those seats more than breathing itself, but alas cannot & will not write that sort of check (and have no current active sponsors at that $$$ level). Having recently done 1:55's and 1:56's at Daytona, I also suspect I would be competitive (unlike Kibort). Oh, well.

Viper Comp Coupe. I was coaching a guy with one who had never been to Daytona before, and he was having real problems in T1 and the Bus Stop, so I did 6 "baseline" laps to give him a decent data trace. What a PITA car, though. It's a HUGE bitch, yet has a teeny tiny door & interiior (and I am 6' 4"). Very hard to determine where the corners of the car were from the drover's seat. But once at speed, it sure gits up & goes, as long as you don't aggressively try to trailbrake it! Oh, did I mention it was HOT HOT HOT! ****, it was hot inside.
