We have our annual ski trip during the March CR, but I'll make it next year. Targeting the Maverick ECR CR in May.

Not sure if this fits into the spec996 series but flat6innovations is having a rebuild class in February. It may be helpful to see the good and bad points of the M96 engine up close and the fixes.

Looks like they are in the Atlanta area.

A friend just referred to the new minimum weight increase of 50 lbs. as the Fat f*%k Rule. LMAO....

The rules don't mention any differentiation between a C4 and a C2 - both are valid at that 2850 weight?

The early C4 3.4 cars carry an additional 125 lbs. while the later 3.6 C4S cars carry almost 300lbs. of additional weight. So regardless of the rules, that additional weight they carry would place them at a serious disadvantage.

But.... I wonder if you could take a later C4S and strip out all the front wheel drive mechanicals making the weights similar. Then you'd have a car with a wider rear track which the Rules Committee would have to address. Interesting idea....

There's already a track width restriction in the spec.

Right, but if you can reduce that extra weight to meet the minimum... How would a 3.4 C4 at 2850 lbs compare to a 3.4 C2 at 2850 lbs? There's going to be a little bit more "parasitic" drag from the drive line, but the weight distribution will be a little better - and it has a stiffer chassis (that's why the C4 chassis is used in the GT3). And, I think that mid-corner application of power would be enhanced by the additional drive wheels.

Just food for thought...

And/or, do the rules prevent a "C2 conversion" from a C4?

I don't know about the rules, but I doubt all that extra work would be worth it. They're pretty stiff to begin with, my 99' handles every bit as well as my 03' Cup did just down 100 HP or so....

I think driving skills are the largest contributor to fast lap times in amateur racing. I hire a pro coach for tune ups a few times a year and I'm always amazed how much I have to learn.

Which doesn't address the wider OEM track on a C4S. If someone decides to build one you guys will have to address that. I would think the same overage applied to the narrow body car + the C2S's OEM track. Hopefully you guys will have these types of issues to deal with some day soon....

Thanks for posting pics. The Spec 996 look great! I am really digging this concept and hope to find the means and time to get involved next season.

Looks like BMW guys are on the same track. Maybe we can get some ideas from them.

Those pesky M3's were dominating the So Cal GTS3 class until Vali ran his 996 Spec in June. I joined him for their last race in December. We like all those Hoosiers they keep sending us.....

Seeing Vali run in the Nationals was great! Did he sell his 996?

Not as far as I know. The last he told me was he wanted to sell his BMW and race the 996 next year....
