This is a question I had myself.

Something to consider moving forward is if someone upgrades to a 3.6l motor, what other updates would they need to produce a comparable 2002+ copy? How about bodywork?

Finding a wrecked donor car and moving over all of the needed mechanical pieces might be a labor of love for someone

Just ordered the Wing from Getty and trying to get the rockers from MA Shaw. Center Radiator is in, condensor's are out, compressor is probably out as well. Having the front of the car wrapped next week with some cool graphics. The wife demanded it! Globe was my witness.

I need 8" front Sport Classic II's because I have 7.5"' rims already. Thoughts?

Yep, need to upgrade shocks / springs to really turn the diving penguin into the flying penguin.

Thx for the reminder...

Bill, when she said "go ahead and build it and see what happens", I'm not quite sure if she was offering encouragement.

Look forward to seeing this class and rule set develop. My 1999 996 upgraded to have a 2003 3.6 will be resting from normal track duty this year as I dabble in the Spec Boxster world.

I hope to see a sensible method for update/backdating across the MKI and MKII cars spanning 1999-2004.

I am happy to share my experiences with the rules board regarding engine/trans and suspension interchange across the years.

Cheers!

-Paul

1999-2005 - 996's
i think as these cars are taking a bath on resale values they may make sense as de cars or club racers as they can be purchased for a great price. of course if we could interchange parts and be able to run all yr 996's with weight penalties this will open up the class even more. i hope as parts from the factory become more available so will options for the motor issues. i look forward to hearing more about this class in the future. i will continue to run my 924s for now !
good luck

Well I already have the spec wing/decklid for my street/track 996... I will be very interested to see how the 3.6 allowance pans out as I can see a possible future for my 04.

Good to hear someone else has the ***** to drive around with that big hideous wing.

Ordering one after the holidays.

Just to support you, I plan to drive around my area with that hugely ostentatious wing on! With any luck, I'll grab a picture of me at a stop light with a cop next to me. No mufflers and race rubber ought to make it a pretty hefty fine.

Uh, well not really as it comes off when I get home from the track. Driving to the track with it is embarrassing enough. That and the car is my wife's daily these days... Seems to work well and for a track like Buttonwillow I think it drops 2 seconds give or take over no wing. Ran a 2:02.6 on street tires (Nitto NT05) this past Monday Buttonwillow 13CW... Pretty much stock car (ROW030, Quaife, Pagid Orange pads, getty wing/trunk lid, GT3 front lip.)

I started the Spec996 build today on my '02 3.6l. I stripped most of the interior during the day. Still lots of work ($$$ to spend, ) left before the cage goes in, but well past the point of no return.

Cool. Plus, now the handbrake is right there for rallying!
