Default A lap at Sebring

Please critique! I have been having some problems with brakes getting soft so I backed it off a bit in this session. I have SRF fluid and Pagid black street pads. The brakes are fine til about 20 minutes into each session in which case they get real soft. I ran into the grass yesterday at 10 and today almost did the same at 7. A mechanic at the track checked the fluid and it was fine, so I think it's an overheating issue. Ron Zitza has some yellow pagids ordered for the next time I go out. Also he's going to install some GT3 cooling ducts and Pss9 Bilsteins thanks to Christian Engle for selling me his at a fire sale deal!

BTW, this video was shot with the gopro mini video camera which I had mounted on the front passenger fender. For my next run I have it mounted to the windshield. Here is a link to the camera. It is pretty neat and only $200! http://www.rpmgear.com/all-cameras?manufacturer=1

Mark, I tried to watch your video, but it says: "This video is private."

Sorry, I think it's viewable now. Here's a lap with the camera mounted on the inside http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWwJSXike-Y

brake ducting will probably solve the issue. If there isn't enough air moving to cool the brakes then it really doesn't matter how good all of the other components are.

Mark, since there is no engine sound it's hard to tell when you are getting on the throttle..plus to really fine tune it all someone really needs to be in the car with you since you basically have the line down there is no corrections someone could honestly make by watching the video. A coach would need to feel your brake and throttle and the balance of the car.

Personally I take a different line going into 13 than you....after I come out of 12 I make it a straight line into 13. I am full throttle out on 10 and around 11-12 and brake in a straight line after the rumble strips on the right going into 13. I take 17 differently as well...I am much closer to the inside wall going into 17.

Mike, I just bought this little camera yesterday and I used the volume setting recommended. I will use the other setting next time. The next time out I will have a coach, so maybe I have some glimmer of hope of at least seeing your tail lights in the far distance eventually become closer! LOL

I hear you about the line into 13. I will be interested in seeing what my coach recommends. I suspect he'll have me modify to more like what you do.

As for 17, I used to go close to the wall also, and will probably go back to that at the Chin event. Suncoast has put a bunch of cones out there, one of which (the turn in cone near that asphalt patch) kind of gets in the way of the inside wall approach. I think you probably remember that from last month. Chin won't have those cones I presume, so I'll get to experiment on my line through 17 a bit more next month.

Thanks for the comments. Missed seeing you this weekend!

Mark, I missed being there this weekend...too much buisness travel for me and I needed this weekend at home.

I want to get a coach sometime this coming CE season too. I remember a few years ago Christian having Seth Thomas coach him and I thought that would be a the coolest.

My wife got me the new Hero Go Pro HD camera for Christmas. Can't wait to try it out.

Looked tidy. I have the cup-car ducts and have always been firm but that might be the viagra and not the SRF . I think for sure you have sectors you can optimize. Great to see the track again, its been awhile for me. Fingers crossed I will have all sorted out for Winterfest.

Best.

Mark, no sound as Mike says makes some of this hard to pick out fine points as you obviously know your way around the track at Sebring.
I think you should concentrate on getting the braking problem fixed. You need to master threshold braking and get your braking points down. Then work on consistancy, hitting the same brake point, turn in, apex, and track out lap after lap.
I think you are overdriving the brakes you have. So you either need to turn lap times that your brakes will allow or get better brakes. I doubt just adding some cooling ducts will solve this problem.
You will eventually need larger rotors and calipers and well you know the drill!!
See ya at the track!!

Mike I may be having a Pro coach come down at Winterfest. Really need a few guys to make it work, so let me know!

Mark, w/o sound or data, it is hard to tell a lot about your driving. However, I agree with the comments on 17. I also think you are starting your turn in for 1 too late--make it a broader arc with less steering. And I think--based solely on the speed at which scenery passes by & then slows down in brake zones--that you are overbraking for a number of corners, which may have something to do with your brake issues.

Congrats again, though, on getting back out there!!

I hope to be there for WinterFest....we'll see.
