IMIS Motorsports Show -- Indy
Just returning back from a week in Indy at the IMIS show where Swift had a booth to show our latest racecar to the American racing public. The first time this car has been displayed in the states.
We built up a fairly complete car with engine to display. One side without bodywork, the other side with.
We received many many compliments on the car as well as our booth. Up to this point, Swift had never displayed at a racing tradeshow.
Here are some images

The car is headed to PRI now as we'll display it in the PFC booth next week.
PRI typically is good for us, especially the first two days from a visitor perspective, we've never displayed there.

For the Cosworth Engine installs, Garrett was the choice. For Honda, IHI turbos were specified. Each engine company specified their own type. This gbx we had on display was from the good ole' days of 90's Indycar, then labelled Champ Car. Over 900hp from 2.65 liters

Chris, that is a very nice display. I wish I could have been there in person to see it. I will make sure to watch Speed TV for the interview.
Regarding that turbo location (sort of tucked "inside" the gearbox), it looks like the gearbox and/or rear dampers would be exposed to a tremendous amount of heat. How do you prevent these components from getting overheated?

Yes, having the turbo located there was really the only place to put it, having to be as close as possible to the headers. Six different chassis makers back then did the same thing. Its a bitch to keep things cool, but thermal and inconel blankets made it manageable. We also had to plumb fuel and oil to the turbo as well as a throttle cable, so this was another challenge. This is why we called the turbo as having a hot side, and a F'ing hot side
In your reply, you mentioned routing oil, fuel and a throttle cable TO the turbo. I can understand why oil needs to be routed to the turbo center section . . . but I have never heard of fuel and a throttle cable being routed TO the turbo. I am reading this right?

Chris, thanks for the additional info and pictures. Talk about some really complex "packaging" that had to be done!!
