It wasn't just the office, the shop consisted of a few HAAS CNC machines and a CMM, they must be outsourcing the vast majority of the manufacturing...

Well the recurring theme from Windsor was always "lean, mean, skunkworks type F1 team" and from the shop tour it was definitely lean...

I just spoke with those two and they want to know if there is a C-ment pond big enough in NC to hold their mega yachts?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that you need just a little bit more than a few milling machinces to make all of those nifty carbon fiber parts that are prerequisite to building an F1 car.

they could probably rent out a few of the autoclaves that are around here in Charlotte for the carbon fiber. Penske has 2 or 3 of them...

All the resources they need are here - wind tunnel, manufacturing, machining, carbon fiber people, etc. But I equate it to one of us weekend warrior racers putting an entry togther for LeMans.... we may be able to get a car together...but.... seriously???

After seeing the tour, I was thinking that Windsor must be farming out a lot of the work.

I would be interested to know what the current cash situation of the team is.

My point exactly. The top teams seem to come out with new aero tweaks every race. Scheduling time to rent someone else's autoclave is not conducive to such immediate development.

Had a buddy who did a tour through the shop recently.

What they didn't show was the pile of people upstairs working on computers. Yes some of the stuff is being farmed out (transmission, etc.) but they have lots of stuff in the shop. The bit on SpeedTv was a poorly done piece that left out a lot from what I've heard.

F1 is a big game of secrets. I'm thinking they're holding their cards close to their chests, but I'm usually a pretty big optimist about stuff like this.

If it were me I would have a bunch of NASCAR guys playing around at a public site. and have a private site where the real work is happening.
Remember YouTube and BestBuy are sponsers.

Wonder if Peter will have to walk down the street to one of the NASCAR teams and ask for some help?

I thought it seemed kind of pathetic too. No race in North America this year probably didn't help. And here's Ross Brawn commenting on how he's surprised they aren't crash testing yet.
