Unless the current owner has had the engine rebuilt, that is indeed a legal D (formerly G class) car. The legendary Bob Johnson of JOhnson Autosport in Minnesota did the majority of the work setting the car up for racing, with the rest of the work done by Aaron Haft, a former employee of Bob's who now has his own shop in the TWin Cities, Flat Six.
The car is a great car. I co drove it in an enduro at Brainerd in 2002 and had a ball in it. David, the current owner, hasn't raced it much since buying it a year or two later from the former owner, Bobby Piper.
It's a good value at that price, IMHO.
