Default SC/Carrera tire clearance

1980 911SC very low with 31mm rear T-bars. Installed longer lug studs so I could run spacers on the rear. Spacers are 5mm. Tires (245-45-16 Hoosiers on 8x16 911 Fuchs {not late 951 8x16s}) look really close. Do you think I'm going to have rubbing problems? Lips are narrower than front. Should I try to roll them anyway.

Car goes on trailer to night headed to VIR. Need help soon.

Thanks

I don't think you're going to need the spacers. The 245 should fit perfect, especially if you have an aggressive alignment which I'm sure you do.

Chris,

-2.4 rear camber and a little bit of toe-in. I know that I don't need them, but I want the added track if it won't cut my tires.

Agree with Chris. If you are running a factory 911 offset 8 x 16, the wheel will be out about a far as you can go (including generous negative camber) running a 245. My SC is lowered and I run that tire and wheel combo, and I would have a problem getting a finger in there.

most of us are running 275's in the rear. i have rolled lips but not sure I even need to. run as much camber as you can get. I rub at 2.4 degrees on 9's x 18.

I run 275/40-17" on the rear. They are very close. I have almost no travel in my suspension. (likely the same as Sean's) Fenders are rolled and I have no issues.

245/16" with stock offsets should work. The spacers may create a problem. If you want more track buy more tire and you'll get more contact patch also.

Edit: See avatar. If the wheels are locked L or R and I hit a rut....? Who knows. Never happened with me or before.

You mean a wider contact patch, area of the contact patch is determined only by weight and tire pressure, right?

Gotcha. Many run the 275s but have done extensive "massaging" to make them fit. Just try the spacers out and if they rub take them off.

Sean,

It is leaning. Left side in the crusher run is several inches lower than the right side on asphalt. Sitting normally the top of the fender lip is about 1/4" above the top of the tire. I'm going to give it a whirl for one run with the tires marked and check it thoroughly.

10 mm additional track will not do very much at all. Not worth cutting tires over anyway.

The 9x16 fits better on the SC/Carrera rear than the 8x16 that the original poster is talking about. This is because the offset of the 911 8x16 is 10.6mm, whereas the offset on the 9x16 is 15mm...just enough to make if clear the fenders better. (The stock 7x16 rear is something like 23.3mm...way inset)

I have more than 2 degrees neg on my lowered SC with 911 offset 8x16s, and trust me, there is no room for spacers (and no need)
