Default gutting 996/997

So who has stripped out a stock 996/997 for club racing.

My E Prod 914 was down to 1750lbs with full steel body and bumpers, wondering how light a modern car could go.

Also, guess we would run in GT class with SCCA, no?

thanks,
dr

It would in part depend on how stripped out you can gut your car according to the rules of the sanctioning body you'll be running under.

Boxster Specs are about 2450#
944 SuperCups are about 2600+#

I would guess about 2700 - 2800# with a full cage.

Not a 996 or 7 but my gutted 993 with fiberglass front end and doors is right at 2450. Still has plenty to loose out back but I have to weigh 2470 to make GT4 rules. I could probably get it down to 2400 with out getting drastic at the back end. Things still on the *** end include, stock headders with heat box, Fabspeed supercup exhaust, heat shielding and metal bumpers front and rear and of course the glass.

FWIW.

With all steel body parts, full glass, and no mufflers, my fully caged 996 Spec is 2600 empty or less.....

Yeah, but John, I think you need to put a seat in it to race it.

My 996 Spec is around 2750 with cage dry right now. There's still a fair amount I can take out of it. 996 Spec weight is 2750 with driver. I think GTB is 2800 with driver.

I'm in the middle of doing it now. The car is 2500 lbs dry with the cage -- I still have to install about 100 lbs worth of things, seat, lexan windows, other misc parts. It's totally gutted, doesn't even have a dash. The AC compressor and condensors are still in there though, that will save me 50 lbs or so.

Doh! Thanks John. I still think you have to have a driver's seat in the car.

really...2500? this is confirmed on scales or hand calculating?
my car has the lighter 99-01 chassis, totally gutted like yours, HVAC delete, muffler delete, sunroof delete, lexan rear window CF doors, etc, etc and it was weighed by PCA scrutineering at 2740 on fumes. subtract 220 for me and gear and it's at 2520. i am just curious as you haven't done all the lightweight mods that i have already done yet your car is lighter than mine.

That was on scales...I'll have a fully assembled weight in another week or so and then I'll send an update with pics.

hmmm maybe the PCA scruts need to recalibrate their scales. are your scales calibrated. their scales are off from my shop by around 40 lbs.

2800# no fuel. That is with full cage, seats, cool suit cooler, everything but me and gas. Hard to get much lower without getting into body panels.

It's a 2002. I did take off the sunroof panel though and replace it with a gt3 skin. I'm sure that saved a lot of weight. The lexan front/rear "glass" went in today. Once I get the inner control arm spherical spacers fixed (they were too tall) then I'll lower it again and get a closer weight.

I figure I could get mine to 2500 dry fairly easily is I went Carlo's route with CF doors, hood, and full lexan. I too went to a GT3 roof skin, no HVAC, and Fabspeed 100 cell cats only. I couldn't believe how heavy those stock muffler were for Laguna. I'll weigh my car again tomorrow at Cal Speedway...

PS: Carlos I'm going to run Yoko slicks in tomorrow's practice for the first time...
