Looks like the rules are moving more in the direction of racing, and away from driving street cars on the race track. Plus it's about time they dealt with the DOT vs Race tires in the Mod classes. to all the changes.

The thing that I saw was requirement for functioning head lights and tail lights for rain races.
Not an issue for stock (probably), but certainly an issue for GT cars.
Tail light are probably not a bad idea due to spray, but headlight seems pointless.

My suggestion is leave GT to 1-6, do not differentiate on tires at all, and allow the racer to decide (like with everything else in GT class) what they want to run with.
Actually, I think headlights are very necessary. At speed, you can't see someone behind you through the spray if they don't have headlights, and may very well run them off the track without even knowing about it.

What about the stock class minimum wheel diameter proposal?? Does that mean no 15" wheels?? Would 15"s become a "Prepared" change? And at what year car would that rule take effect?? The SCs?? The Carreras??
I suspect a lot of people will be very upset with this potential rule change (but not me !!).

Everything makes a lot of sense in Stock and Prepared. I would just change the -100lbs for Prepared for -3.5% weight reduction so it has a relative similar effect in all cars.
My other comment from experience is that it will not be advisable for the 997/987 to only approve the GrandAm sanctioned ABS systems which are VERY expensive ($15K+ install), and would prevent us from trying cheaper solutions.
However, with proper rotor sizes that can dissipate heat well enough throughout a race the stock ABS unit behaves relatively OK and with the yaw sensors off (shorted) there's no interference of PSM under any circunstance.

Yes 100lbs in a 2200lbs car is alot different than 100lbs in a 3500lbs car.
As for headlights I suspect a number of GT cars do not have them at all and don't have provisions for them.
Plus when do they need to be "on". When a few drops fall? When is just a little damp? I can see a 90 minute enduro that starts in the dry then there are a few drops of rain then dry? If a guy has tape on his lights does he have to pit take the tape off? Also what defines a "head light" stock? or could a well secured flashlight be a "headlight"?
Tail lights are simpler since most of the time tail lights are retained due to the need for brake lights.

Am I delusional, or is the proposed NEW index for GT on DOT's backwards? Shouldn't slicks have the higher range per class? Per the proposed index, a car who's index number is 620 is at the bottom of the GT3 range for R-compounds. If the existing schedule is for 'non-DOT tires' ie: slicks, then that car could lighten it's weight down a few hundred lbs. to a 551 index and run slicks while still in GT3. Did I miss something?
GT Proposal:GT
1. Remove class distinction between R and S, and adjust Performance Index values to compensate:
GT car on DOT tires:
• 470 and below: GT1
• 471 to 615: GT2
• 616 to 750: GT3
• 751 to 915: GT4
• 916 to 1085: GT5
• 1085 and above: GT6
• GT car on non DOT tires -- same values as today

JR, you aren't mistaken, it is backwards, I already sent a note to Donna. And actually, if you reverse them, the DOT tired cars have way too much advantage, almost 450lbs in say GT3.
