Default GTB Question

Can someone please tell me if the weights for the GTB Class include the drive or not? For the life of me, I can not find where it says anything about this;

Class GTB
Normally aspirated 996 or later 911 model (excluding GT3) production street cars modified beyond the requirements for “STOCK” or “PREPARED” cars that have an unmodified production engine, transmission and gears, ECU, and chassis. Suspension components must remain stock except that GT3 or GT3 Cup lower control arms and GT3 adjustable rear toe links are allowed. Bodywork changes are limited to those found on a GT3 Cup; if a wing is used it must be a GT3 wing or factory non-extended GT3 Cup wing. Springs, shocks, and camber plates are free. Other GT modifications are allowed. See table below for minimum weights by model and engine.

Model Year Engine HP Weight Ratio(lb/hp)
996 99-01 3.4L 300 2750 9.17
996 02-05 3.6L 320 2850 8.91
996 All 3.6L X51 345 2975 8.62
997 05-08 3.6L 325 2950 9.08
997 09 3.6L 345 3025 8.77
997 05-08 3.8L 355 3050 8.59
997 All 3.8L X51 381 3175 8.33
997 09 3.8L 385 3175 8.25

To my understanding the weight is as you would finish the race. With driver, cool suit full of water and whatever fuel you have in the tank. So depending how close to the rule you are running there can be some strategy involved with being legal at the end of a race.

Hope this helps, and as you have pointed out since it is not posted please do not take what I have to say as the gospel. Please contact Donna Amico, she is very good about getting back with people.

Not sure of that class, but 99% of weight classifications include driver.

weight is with driver and gear in car as you drive off the track.

OT: not sure why the rules allow for a large spread in HP/wt. looks like pca values weight over HP. tell me that on the straight of any track.

Just get a cool suit with about 200 gallon "cooler", run the race cooler empty, then pit with 1 lap left and fill the cooler up...

When you come off the track and go right to the scales (with you in the car). That's your weight....

They are correct. It is with driver and they do check weight often when coming off the track. Even though the power/weight ratios are a little different, it really evens up the cars IMHO. For example, I ran with a 3.8 X51 at VIR and our cars were very close on the straights and lap times were fairly close as well. I have a 3.6 X51. However, I have had stock class 996's pull me on the straight at Road Atlanta...wasn't sure how that could happen, but it did.

Completely baffles me how I'm supposed to get my '99 996 down to 2750 lbs with me in it??? I just don't think that is possible.

Seems pretty low to me also. You can get there but I think it will take some cf to do it.

Yep, doable. I had to stop reducing weight in mine with the new restrictions this year...still have my heater blower, extra wiring and other things I could do to go lighter.

Carbon fiber is your friend (or enemy if you ask your wallet).

There are readily available doors, hood, rear lid, roof etc. etc...

Beyond that, start drilling holes...
