Your loss. Well, on the first part, I mean....

Were you at RA over July 4th?

Veloce, No. I was on vacation with the family. I was there this weekend and will be there for the Chin event in two weeks.

Will you be at the Chin event? Anyone else going?

Nah, I live in Texas. I trailered in to instruct at the BMW event over July 4th, since I hadn't driven RA since the repave. Oh, and also to meet Dave and Tucker and Jenk12m and Dez and several other folks here. 16 hour tows.....not gonna happen often!

Sorry that I didn't get a chance to meet you. We have a great group of guys that get up there routinely. We have all been going through this addiction at about the same time. Z

Was that indicated 167 on 18s or 19s?

167 in a 6 GT3 is crazy, looking down to see said 167 while barreling into 10a is INSANE!

34's in a 6GT3 on RA1's in traffic is pretty crazy too, especially on the old pavement.

Eric, I've been dragging my feet on the Moton's too. I want to commit to some Ohlins 3-ways, but adjusting those bad boys on my own would be a PITB because sometimes I decide the morning of or late the night before if I'm going to a DE or not. I really just want that high speed bump to eat curbs with.

Having a hard time understanding how your decision on when to attend a DE affects what sort of dampers to run...

I would say its a worthy investment.....

I have konis on my 928 and they are "okay".....but I rode in a race car with custom JRZ's and it was on a whole different level....nothing upset it....everything was perfectly controlled and damped....even messing up and catching air..it just landed...compressed..slight rebound...& your gone..

A local guy has a stockish 996 GT3 with Motons and he puts down VERY impressive times....times that a 997 GT3 can't match....& thats 3400lbs with him in it!! He loves his motons

Don't forget that with all that adjustability comes the need for someone to adjust them. It can be tricky setting them up for the first time.

It might be advisable to find someone who's got some data on similar car/suspension for the various tracks you're looking at hitting so you at least have a rough idea of where to start.

Nothing amazes me more than people who spend stupid amounts of money on fully adjustable shocks and then just leave them at their mid-way settings for all occasions.

Sublime on the yellow car. And I'm not a tinkerer, so basically how I bought (and properly set) it is how it stays. Too old now to worry about a tenth here or there.

18's, Toyo RA1's. It was a 996 GT3.

Dez, frankly, you're right, and it was a bit too much for the circumstances and my comfort level. I don't know the margin of error in GT3 speedometers. Even if it was 5%, well, that's still fast.

Because I'm "self service" which means I could go to any track and any time up to the last minute. And being in Atlanta, there's a good 6-8 tracks within 5 hours:

Roebling (ewe)
Road Atlanta
VIR (4hrs)
TGP
CMP
Barber

Plus I will be making the odd trip far away to Sebring, Mid-Ohio etc. The point is that I don't have time to wait on mechanics to follow me around and tune the suspension, I want something I can tinker with and understand and not completely screw up trying to set up. I also do time trials as well so I do adjust the suspension quite often and won't accept a vanilla setup on some really expensive coilovers. I just don't want something more than I can understand and handle on my own.

That's the best sense I can make of it, it seems all the guys I know that have 3-ways have track support and or mechanics running around behind them all the time (except Al Norton, but he's different), that won't be me.

Dez, IMO, avoid 3 ways unless it is a full-on caged 100% race car. Too complicated for a part time vehicle, w/o any appreciable advantage.

You hang out with too many Porsche guys. We lower budget BMW guys cab actually be seen working on our own cars, even with 3-way dampers.
