Patrick Long DE/Race clinic at MSR

After checking my data, I was 1.4x off of Pat's times with you in the car. I think earning that missing time will be my goal in the next few months.
An interesting sidenote: looking at my data he entered Big Bend a full 5 MPH faster! Because I overslowed, I was able to get to WOT earlier, so I only lost the time he was rolling 5MPH faster from entry to apex. This is a perfect example of overslowing costing time, as Pat was .2 seconds faster for this segment despite me catching up to his speed on the straight because I went to full power a little earlier.

BUT WAIT -- THERE'S MORE!!
Again -- these are unedited... Just raw shots.
If there is something you particularly like, I would be happy to 'clean it up' for you, if possible, or send you the full jpeg.
Just let me know -- I shot these for you!
MSR-PATRICK LONG DE, DAY I, PART II, 27 OCT, 09
Thanks for the compliments, guys.
Not quite good enough to give up my stethoscope, however!
Just trying to get back in my game...
I appreciate the fun PM's and notes!
Stay tuned for Day Two!!

My best lap was a 1:22.9 towards the end of day 1 with Dave. The extra weight slowed me down, but he made it up in coaching.
Pat's best lap was a 1:20.3 on day 2, when the track was slower.
Both measured from the corner flag station at big bend.
Stock 997 GT3, except for wheels (CCW's) and tires (R6's).
Hey Tom, since you outed yourself over dinner that you fiddle with the start/finish line in your data to derive your best lap, I have to ask.... do we have a true apples:apples comparison here? Either way, you were tough to keep up with, as always!

Thanks!
Thanks, 'ER'...
Normally I would have edited the files down and cleaned the pics up a bit, but I have received a bunch of PM's and emails requesting pics of each other's cars.
This way everyone can sort through and choose their own. Some should have been deleted instead of posted, and vice versa.
I still can tweak them if someone wants... just too many files, and I figured participants wanted to see them before New Year's!
I need to get back to the online issues at hand with my 'bill paying' job... I still take that one seriously -- even if I do earn it mostly 'at night!'

Seriously, the laps were definitely compared apples:apples to Pat as I used actual .dsf file programmed at the track for comparison (right at pit out - the reason I like this s/f is because it's the one Dave saw when he was in the right seat). I have to use the same s/f when comparing Pat's runs (since you can't accurately overlay segments or compare data unless the laps have the same s/f anyway); and it didn't matter where I put start/finish since all of Pat's runs look virtually identical regardless! doh! [I had the same lap time setting S/F at the corner station before big bend...] I was stoked to break into the 22s in a new (to me) car at my first 2 day event. Talk about a crash course in driving! lol. Gotta love a GT3!!! Like Josh says, it drives itself.
I gotta also give props to Randy, Seth, and Dave (specifically) as well as Glen, Steve and Cory for providing insight into driving my car faster. And SERIOUS mad props to Todd for fixing my car on the spot when my shifter cable came loose. I big thanks goes out to the other participants for making the event fun and exciting, and a special thanks goes out to to Pat for making the trip to teach! Lastly, a big "KUDOS" goes out to Glen for organizing and hosting the event. It was awesome! THANKS ALL!

Quick Summary of the event: Cup Cars are Sex on track! Patrick Long is fast. Glen did an awesome job organizing. Kim took amazing photos. One of the best group of guys I have had the pleasure of being on track with! Where were the strippers hiding?

GOING 'PUBLIC'...
I just changed the status of the Picasa web albums to 'public' since some were having trouble viewing.
I don't usually do that with my images, because 'anyone who peruses Picasa can use them.
Not sure what the issue is (and if anyone has insight, please let me know), but if your pic shows up elsewhere -- it wasn't me!
(Yes,, I know - they are 'public' when I post on Renn, but less so.)
Thanks for letting me know. Now back to VR, et al!

What a great event. I hope all the guys had a good time (it seemed like they did ) Thanks to Glen for setting it all up and thanks to all my fellow instructors! It is a great little track. I think the spec miata was as much or more fun than the cup cars. Ha

Cory, you should come back sometime when we run the 3.1 course that you toured with Randy. It's a hoot and a half at speed!
