Default Tow vehicle milage

I pull with an 06 F350 superduty. 6.0 diesel. My mpg average was 13 with or without my open Featherlight trailer/car behind me. Now that I am pulling a 28' aluminum goose neck my mileage has dropped below 10 mpg.
Just curious what other people tow with and the average mpg you get.

That seems really low for a diesel pulling something that weighs essentially nothing. We'd get 8 with a full 48ft. gooseneck and 18 without a trailer.

Open trailer behind a Tundra and I get 14mpg at 60-65 and 12ish if I'm pushing 70.

Post the speeds you travel as they have a huge effect on the mpg.

I have an 8.0 V10 Dodge 2500 gasser 2wd that is pretty much dedicated towing.

I went out to San Antionio to pick up an eclosed 24 ft trailer I do really nice deal on so I racked up some extented "clean runing"

So here is my data
- Empty 70 mph hwy speeds = 12 mpg
- Towing open trailer with lots of gear and 2450lbs 944 - 65-70 mph = 9-10 mpg
- Towing 24ft enclosed trailer empty 65 mph - 8-9 mpg. 65mph
- Towing 24ft trailer empty with bad head wind 65mph - 6.5mpg.

I have not towed the 24 ft box trailer with the car in it yet.

I just did 2000 miles, no hills (Palm Beach to VIR and back) 75 - 85MPH with 44' trailer with 2 cars in it and still got almost 10MPG, stock, no chip same truck.
Basically all the way boost at 20PSI.

We do have 3:73 gearing and I think that my tapered nose with wind bubble is good for 15MPH or 2 MPG.

It is less weight factor and more wind factor.

All newer trucks get worse MPG due to emission stuff, if you rip that all off, they should do the same. I have 140K miles and would like a new one, but they are no better..... Waiting to see what Ford will do for '10 and waiting for '10 Dodge show up at dealers.

I pull a circa 10,000 lb trailer with 2005 Yukon XL 2500 4WD with 8.1L (gas).

I get 6.3-7 mpg towing depending on hills and throttle.

Friend of mine has a Ford F-350 diesel with a gooseneck (I think it's a 38-40' enclosed of course). Towing a GT3 and Corvette ZR1 with a set of spare tires for each plus all our gear, jacks, etc. We got 13.7 mph and that was going over the Grapevine and back north of LA.

Open steel trailer, estimated weight 5,200 lbs with car only, 5,400 lbs will full tire rack. Tow vehicle 2007 (new body style) 3/4 ton Yukon XL (Suburban twin), 6.0 gasser, 4.10 rear end. Tow speeds typically 70-75 tops.

Mileage: 13 with no tires in tire rack; 12 with tires in tire rack (extra wind resistance)

Seems that mpg varies a lot. The open trailer with car is about 4500# total, enclosed Thule goose neck with v nose is around 6600#. Almost all highway at 70-75. I try to keep the rpms right about 2000 most of the way.
I used to use cruise control with the open and set it for 74, but that does not work well with the enclosed. I have to go a bit faster downhill and let it slow down on the uphill. Otherwise the rpms start to go sky high.
Anybody try chipping for better mpg?

Ford F250 4wd 7.3L Diesel towing a steel 18' open trailer with car on it, but no tire rack: about 11-12 mpg. Without the trailer, I get 15-16 mpg in mixed city/highway. I'm told that having 4WD lowers the fuel economy about 1 mpg.

Should have got a Chevy diesel. The best thing I did was ditch the Ford diesel. I get 15+mpg towing with my open trailer @ 70mph. The enclosed 28' trailer gets 13.5 mpg @ 65 mph. Open road no trailer 20+ mpg @ 70 mph.

1998 Dodge 2wd cummings diesel manual tran. 14-16mpg towing 24' Featherlight depending on speed. The gear vendor overdrive unit helps a lot with mileage.
