Default Camera mount review...

Hey folks...

A little while back I posted that I had found an alternative cost effective mount for cameras in the cars. I finally got around to mounting the thing up to my car.

I like the results (sorry, I forgot to reset the exposure settings):

Here's the mount info:

http://www.svtek.com/VS_Billet_Camera_Mount.html

If you click products on the web page it gives you a listing of distributors. Some of those offer it at a lower cost.

No affiliation - just really impressed with how stable the picture is and how robust the mount attaches to the roll bar.

For the extra $15, IO Port has a much nicer mount with 3 axis control:

The IO Port mount is a quality piece. Saving $20 or so on something much less capable makes no sense to me [YMMV, of course]

I had a multi-axis mount prior to this one. I never used the "unlimited" ability it had. I only pointed it forward. This achieves the same thing but with a built in security strap so a tech won't give me a hard time about it.

Each to their own.

Yep. If that was $45 or so I could see it but it isn't in the same league as the IOPort IMO....

Meh...I'm a cheap bastage. $20 is $20.

Default An inexpensive alternative

This is what I recently purchased for a camera mount: $30
Bogen Super Clamp, that simply clamps to the harness bar or roll bar. It comes with a stud for the 1/4-20 mount for a camera. The only down side was that the camera was mounted a bit low; but I will make a simple spacer block to raise it up an inch or two. You can get all the adjustment (angle up/down, side/side) you need.

I use the same thing. Works very well and easy to buy at any decent camera shop.

I spruced it up with a ballhead mount, though, but it is not necessary.
