Question Help! Cracked Brake Pads?

After two autocross events and one track day, today I swapped the race pads out and put the Porsche OEM pads by Textor back. My race pads are Pagid Yellow in front and Pagid Black in rear. My street pads are Porsche OEM pads by Textor.

I noticed weird pattern at the surface of the Yellow pads (not on Black pads). I am attaching three pictures to illustrate.
1) resize_both.jpg: top row is Textor and bottom row is Pagid Yellow. The Textors look normal.
2) resized_left.jpg: close up of the pad for the left wheel
3) resized_right.jpg: close up of the pad for the right wheel

Anybody's seen things like this before? The pattern looks like surface crack line that doesn't go too deep. There are also little chips along with the surface crack lines. I am not sure if I want to put them back for my next track/AX event... Please advise!

Common,
Did you bed them well and warm them up correctly? (Takes patience)

Plenty of info available here if you do a search.

+1 here too. I cant see how much pad is left, but my pagid blacks look like this with 3-5mm left. Time to toss.

They are almost brand new!! I put them on late April, run one AX + one-day DE + one AX (two AXs and one track day in total). I hate to toss away $300 but I am also worry about using it for the next track event.

But how much do you have left on the pad? On a track day warrior I'd be a little bit more generous than 5mm but around 3mm it should be time.
If they are still solid & cracks are just on surface you should be fine.
(If they are not worn down of course.)

I have had pagid yellows that crapped out even worse than yours look now. Some crack. Some chunk. Some completely disintegrate.

TD, I saw your pictures while researching the cracked pad topic. I am really having doubt on Pagid from now on, esp. the infamous Yellow.

Do you guys think I can reuse those pads, given that my situation is not as dramatic as TD?

FWIW, I've seen similar cracks on my HT10 pads after several track days. They appeared to be surface cracks and did not extend to the edges of the pad. I've used them for 4 track days since I noticed the cracks. I haven't pulled them to see how they look, but they have been performing fine.

Time for new pads. Couple things could be going on or a combination. Incorrect bed-in, lack of brake ducting with heavy car or incorrect braking technique. My pagid blacks will fall apart from the backing plate when I am changing them out, but thats not from 2 Ax's and one track event.

WGI is great for bed ins. Try 5-6 100 - 70 mph with lite pedal effort. Bus stop, T-6, T-7 T-8, T-9 & T-10, followd by 4-5 periods of braking coming down closer to the speeds from which you will be braking from. Very immportant to get pad transfer to the rotors with pagids.

Did you get and follow the bedding instructions? I have been using Pagid RS 19's for years on the 996GT3 and now the 997RS with no problems like the ones shown in the photos above. You must bed them properly first however else, the powwerful brakes on your car will overheat the pads and that leads to cracks. The Rs 19 is used by Porsche for the LeMans race and they do the 24 hours without changing pads or rotors. Something is wrong here.

At the thickness you are showing, those pads are still fine to run. they look like surface cracks and will likely not be seen after a couple of good track days.

those are fine to run, the people throwing them away are wasting their money. It's the same thing as with rotors. All rotors start to crack before they go and the cracking is normal. For pads you are fine until you see *big* chunks coming off, which you will probably start to see near the end of the life of the pad. On rotors the cracks are fine until single cracks start to connect multiple holes (for drilled) or the cracks spread to the outside edge (on any rotor)

Run those chick-lets, Those are fine. Try not to go to full metallic thats a little tough on the rotters.6-5mm toss em. I never had as much luck with pagid ( I ran the orange).I prefer PF's and hawks.
