Smart Strings: opinions from users
Just looking for some feedback on the Smart String alignment setup, if anyone's used it. Like any tool, I think it's probably as good as the person using it, just wondering if anyone had any feedback. Thanks in advance...

They work very well if you actually do your own alignments. TOPP Racing in Dallas uses them on Cup cars and everything else. If you are looking to buy one let me know as I bought them a few years ago when I thought I would do my own alignment work but have only used them once as with no lift etc it is a time consuming endeavor.

They work great, just make sur eyou take your time and get them set-up properly. I used them yesterday. I also have the front toe plates if I want to check or tweak thr front toe, plus I have a camber gauge for intitiel set-up and adjustments trackside.

Work well and when used per directions and with normal care and skill produce good results. Take the time to set them up for your car just right and then mark the tubes for a faster setup the next time.

To some degree the tool is less important than diligence. You can use jackstands and strings also, but then you can't roll the car around everytime you make a change. Basically I've found that you change something, roll the car about to settle everything, then recheck, repeat, do this for about 4 hours.
It's somewhat less time consuming if everything has solid bushings. If you have compliant bushings then setting it once will never work. I think this is also why people always gripe about shops doing alignments. To do it properly takes way more time than they can spend and make a profit. Sure laser this laser that, if its on the rack and never moves, then how good is that laser alignment???
