BMW......it's about time.....

BMW confirms double diffuser for Turkey

By Pablo Elizalde

The BMW Sauber team has confirmed it will finally introduce a double-decker diffuser at next week's Turkish Grand Prix.

After struggling for performance at the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend, the Hinwil-based squad will run the new diffuser in Istanbul, hoping it will boost its hopes of a stronger result.

BMW motorsport boss Mario Theissen admitted the team did not expect such a poor start to the season after scoring its first win last year.

He insisted, however, that the team can cope with the situation and that it will continue to push to get out of it.

"Ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix our results are quite sobering. Nobody in the team expected the season to pan out as it has so far," said Theissen.

"After taking a forward step in Spain, we were clearly off the pace in Monaco. To regain our competitiveness we will have to ramp up our development speed significantly. In Istanbul we will have the next step of our development ready and will be using a multistage diffuser for the first time.

"After three successful years, this phase is our first setback. We can deal with it. After all, it was the same team in Munich and Hinwil that ensured our progressive advancement since the BMW Sauber F1 Team was founded. We are all determined to get ourselves back among the front runners again."

Well Ferrari is starting to look pretty good and I wouldn't count out a win for Vettel.

I wonder how good BMW will be with the double diffuser.

Button's on a roll. Gotta go with him even though the odds may be against 5 in a row.

Hard to go against Button, but Massa is spectacular at this particular track.

Kimi and Massa have both won here...

Montoya holds the track record at 1 minute, 24.770 seconds

I'd say Kimi, Vettel, or Button... with a slight nod to Button.

I think Kubica will have a good showing, potentially a podium, but I think the new difuser will be, well, too new for it to work as expected out of the box.

FWIW, I think there is more wrong with BMW at the moment besides a high volume diffuser.

I'm going to risk catching Sir A.Wayne at a bad moment here by going with Ferrari (very) slightly over BrawnGP. Ferrari has always looked good at this track.

Not 100% sure if this is a 'good' KERS track or not, so that does throw a slight wrench into things.

Agree with you. I have a feeling this could be the week for Massa and Ferrari. Hard to bet against Button/Brawn, though.

Be careful with that bet.....

Wayne will be along any second trying to win a bottle off of you after he asks Flavio if Montoya is really gone from F1.....
