In March I picked up a 24ft 10,000lbs from RCTrailers.com, when through a dealer in Wis. but picked it up at the factory. Next door was Pace and across the street was Haulmark, they all are built pretty much the same, the employees just move from one to the other.
The 24ft is nice in that I can get my 911 and an ATV with still 4ft between them.

Condition good to excellent. (good thing is rust is rare here. I have a 22 year old open steel trailer with no rust)

Tall order I am sure.

Anyone know how a Carson Trojan tows cars?

This trailer is in the size/price range/condition range, but not sure if the "light" trailer is good for cars even with 10k rating. Are they weak?

Here is info on the carson trojan

Thanks for the input guys!

Newbie guy here looking at these great posts on Renn forum. Did you ever get this trailer? Is 24 ft enough room for a 944 and its support going all the way to Newfoundland Canada. I would like to use my Chevy Avalanche with 8100 lbs tow capapcity and not have to get a new trailer for the new car AND a new new truck !

Isn't the Avalanche basically an SUV with an open rear or am I mistaken? 8100LB Tow Capacity is pretty high so I must be. I think my 2500HD Duramax is only 10K tow. If it is really rated that high I would say that it should pull it well, I would add a Reese Straight-Line tow system to it to help with stability as it's pretty short and a nice prodigy brake controller..

Edit - From what I can find the Avalanche is rated at 7000LB (4wd) and 7200LB (2wd), still pretty high for such a small truck and almost double a Honda Ridgeline's capacity? My 2500 diesel is rated 13,000LB it seems, not 10K.

Have you considered a gooseneck trailer over a bumper pull?

For TexasRider: a 944 is about 14' long total - so you can pull behind on a small 16' open trailer (I used to do that) or upgrade to a smaller enclosed (I now tow it in my 20' enclosed) - over 6' of room at the front for all the other items.

Guys,

Pace American has a promo (from the Indiana factory anyway) on virtually all their steel framed car haulers:
- Outback
- Rallye
- Pursuit
- Shadow

There are a couple of option packages for the most popular sizes with either 3500# or 5000# axles.

The savings are pretty substantial.

My experience is that the lighter axles tow better.

My truck is a 3/4 ton avalanche with an 8.1L with (I believe) a 13k towing capasity. Everything tows like a dream with that thing.

Thanks

Disagree wit the lighter axle theory. Bigger brakes and bearings are always a good thing. Long live overkill, which is why I LOVE my 2500 Avalanche even though my loaded trailer is only 6500#

It's not just the axles that are lighter when comparing a trailer with a GVWR of 7000# to a trailer with a GVWR of 10000#.

Tires are bigger and stronger.
Bearings are larger.
Brakes are larger.
Wheel studs go from 5 to 6 per wheel.
Frame of trailer is heavier.

I'm shopping for a trailer myself and came across this. Although it's about 1200 miles from you, it seems like a decent deal. No affiliation, blah, blah

Sorta right but.... Avavlance is a "open" full size Surburban. As such it could be had (till 2007) in 2500 3/4 ton form, same as your truck, 8.1 litre engine, 6800lb. unladen wt.. Not a small truck. The numbers you quote are for a 1500, which 99% of them are. 2500's are very rare, especially in North East, but is truly a jack of all trades. Tows and hauls just like a 3/4 ton truck with the refinement (relatively speaking) of a Surburban.

Interesting. I was subscribed to this post because I was selling my trailer. I saw the email come across and thought the discussion was about my truck.

I too have a 3/4 ton avalanche with the 8.1L. It is a great truck and love it compared to the 3/4 ton extended cab GMC I used to have. Completely awesome truck. My opinion is that it tows better than the pickup I had.

Thanks

I got the 8100lb number from the Chevy Avalanche capacity page on Chevy's overview. It does seem high but I checked again and it says that it is for base with one driver. Any other passengers and weight would go against to reduce that.

Yes I know the car is 14ft as I had a HaulMark Low Hauler that I just sold that was 16 ft that I bought back in the motorcycle days. But is 10 ft enough for "other" stuff.

I was curious if after using the 24 ft trailer that Joe or any of you might have thought it was too small - or too big. When I had a larger motorcycle race trailer it seemed everything found it way in there - so I moved back to a smaller trailer and even an open one for a quick run to the track. I would like to just have to park one utility, one car trailer, and one lawn tractor trailer here - and not 5 or 6 ! Gooseneck is an idea but too much trailer and too much stuff!

I also had a Ford 7.3 PowerStroke diesel - but I moved to the Avalanche. That big Ford pulled everything - but man is it LOUD inside. Oh and I went to Chevy and Ford to see about a new diesel - uhhh try $60,000. Hey I want to run that Porsche and buy a new trailer not break the bank here

Thanks for all the replys.

Guys, those of you that have the 8.1 L Avalanches, what kind of mileage do you get both empty and towing?

I get about 13 highway and 9 city and about 8 highway towing my 24' enclosed. I am not a slow driver though. I can get as high as 12 towing if I could stand to drive 60 behind the semi's.

That's so funny...now with my enclosed I went from 13-14mpg with my open trailer to 8-9mpg with my enclosed trailer. My truck has the instant fuel economy display and I was having some fun drafting behind a semi and could see the improvements on the same slope (I would go from 10mpg to 15mpg if I got up close). But it was scary even staying 50ft behind one of the big rigs.

Yea. What I need is that sonar based cruise control that would stay a static distance from the truck so I would speed up or slow down as he would.
