Default Drovers wanted; Road Atlanta July 4 & 5

I received this from BMW- looks like lots of track time for those who can make it:

Thank you for your support of the Peachtree BMW CCA driving school program. The student registrations for our upcoming driving school at Road Atlanta over July 4&5 have been low and are currently not sufficient to cover the costs of the weekend. If you or anyone you know might be interested in joining us, get signed up and help save the event from cancellation.

As an incentive (and due to the smaller student numbers); rather than have four small run groups we're looking at dividing students into three groups with bonus track time for everyone (including instructors). It is the last one of the season for Peachtree Chapter as our fall event is in conjunction with this year's Oktoberfest put on by National.

Please help us get this message out and find the additional students necessary to save the school.

Thank you,

Peachtree Chapter BMW CCA Driving School Committee

I think we have more chiefs than injuns at this point. I'd be willing to go as non-instructor (i.e. pay) if it came to it. If they do have it there should be much more seat time.

Pass the word along.

No doubt! I scheduled a summer vacation around this weekend. Vacation would still be good, but track time on vacation is best!!!

Its not cheap but if they get minimal number of entrants it won't be by much likely, so with only 3 run groups could be very good laps/$.

Default How hot is RA in July ?

I was looking at this event. I have never driven RA, so the BMW CCA format would be good to learn the track.

Several folks up here have said the heat in July at RA is far worse than VIR due to the asphalt paddock. True ?

Comments ? Thoughts ?

I do use a cool shirt , but will that be enough ?

Thanks for your input.

Default Hotels at RA

Also, what hotels are near RA comparable to the Sleep Inn in Danville, for example ?

It varies - the weekend I was at VIR last August was worse than any July RA event over the past few years, in my opinion.

If there's little or no wind, it can get pretty warm, though.

Last year's PCA June event was very hot, then August actually 10-15F cooler. January was canceled due to snow.

Regardless Cool Shirt is good and cheap insurance against heat/humidity (Atl doesn't have much of the latter).

Anyone heading down there from the NYC area? If someone had an extra spot on their trailer I'd go.
