Guys in our region are dumping their Traqmates for G2X units.

I ordered the iq3 and had it installed in the 968 in preparation for the Glen race. We could not get the tach signal from the DME to register, it would pick it up initially and then just fall off. Called racepak and they indicate that on many cars there is too much "noise" on the signal. The racepak GMR module works like a filter and provides a signal the iq3 can display. I am at the glen race and the module is in transit due to arrive tomorrow. Hopefully that solves the install, wish I'd known this because the $42 module would have saved alot of time and frustration.
Does anyone at the Glen race have one of the GMR modules installed on their iq3 so I can see just how it is in fact wired? I understand you must supply power, ground and just clip it to the coil, sounds simple, but so did taping into the DME tach pin.

I've got a GMR in my 951, for the same reason. The DME tach signal was too noisy above about 3000RPM.
Wiring is simple enough, and there is a detailed diagram with the unit. The easiest way to install on your car is to put the sensor on the coil line where its been extended back to your kill switch. Be careful to read the installation instructions about how to attach the clamp to your coil wire.
Once you get the SMR installed, don;t forget to program your gear ratios - you can do that driving around the internal roads at the Glen.

Is the IQ3 still on? I could use one with my Motec M400 on my WaveRunner

if anyone knows of a source for a linear potentiometer. I need to rig one up on my SC's throttle so i can input throttle position. Something that is a slider which i could fasten to the linkage,

Probably wrong forum, but there seems to be good info on wiring here and some may run into the same thing I did.
I have a G2X and spliced it to the tach on my SC using the yellow signal wire. When the G2X is turned off (I ran a switch so I can turn it on/off independent of ignition position), the tach doesn't work. Once it is on, it work fine. My guess is that the G2X grounds the sensor wire, and therefore the tach wire, when turned off. What would you suggest adding to keep the tach working at all times? Diode in-line?

It was a little frustrating because I would gladly have bought the little $42 GMR module in the first place and saved myself the headache, but live and learn. Other than that the iq3 is a really nice unit, you should get one Gary.

It was actually quite easy once I realized that the GMR module (just a little filter that attaches to the coil wire to pickup the tach rpm) requires you to cut the wire harness to get at the power/ground/tach signal wires (and throw away the plug end) in order to install on the iq3. The instructions could just have said that, but instead were written exclusively for the G2X.
