Oh yeah, it will attach without tape, but it will fall off as soon as you go around your first corner on the track. Electrical tape is the way to go...nice and stretchy.

Bryan,

Do you use this same lens on your camera? If it's an aiptek, do you have any online videos I could check out? Thanks.

I ran a Sunpak 0.45x on our Aiptek A-HD+ this past weekend. Actually have some very exciting video including a last lap pass for the checker. The camera is mounted just above the harness bar in our car.

Part 1: http://www.vimeo.com/5810776
Part 2: http://www.vimeo.com/5815391

I love the view...I can see everything out the front window and all of my steering inputs.

You both were really hot going into the last corner. Awesome...I would have been hoot'n and holler'n with that win.

tentenths,

Can you post a link to the digital concepts 4.5 27mm wide angle lens you reference above? I'd like to look at the specs and see where it can be purchased.

BTW, I just bought an Aiptek GVS, and it is possible to use the "wide angle trick" to get a little more width of view. I'm not sure what firmware I have, but the camera came from B&H Photo just last week.

Thanks,

Rob

I got it from datavizion a year ago and paid @$100...ripp off. I think this is the same one at amazon http://tr.im/v3FH

personally I would use the one I linked to above for the gvs and not mess with the firmware.

Can you not use the car charger Aiptek sells as an accessory? Is the purpose of the Frankencharger to lengthen the cord?

That will only recharge the battery and you can't record while charging. The "Frankencharger" powers the camera (and recharges the battery I assume) and allows recording while plugged in.

I see, thanks. Searching for the Frankencharger thread now...

Also, does the Aiptek not have a threaded tripod mount? Everyone seems to be securing them with suction cups.

It has a threaded mount...we use a standard I/O Port mount to mount ours.
