MID OHIO SMACK DOWN !! Whose a commin ?

John, I'm actually near Columbus, but I try to get up to the lake as often as I can. Right now I'm just focusing on finishing the car before the driving season gets away from me. I'm planning on an autocross for sure, maybe a DE if I really get my stuff together.

I would like to thank the following people:
1) John Wright (Wright Motorsports) for welding my broken header back together (and for free).
2) Dave M. and Oscar I. for standing in as my enduro crew. The cold Gatorade, tire pressure bleed, and words of encouragement were absolutely invaluable. They both unfortunately had car problems and were forced to sit the race out...
3) And finally MORPCA for putting on a great race!

944 Cup Event Write-up
Congratulations on a great weekend of clean and safe racing at Mid Ohio...
Thanks to everyone who helped me get my car back together so I could race. It was amazing how everyone showed up unsolicited and worked with me as I was struggling to be able to get out on track. I broke a spindle on Friday and then had ball joint issues on Saturday that I found 30 minute before race time. Somehow, I still managed to get it to the pits with about 2 minutes to spare.
I know their were some scrutineering issues that were time consuming and annoying for those involved but we needed to do this to ensure that we will be able to enjoy close and competitve racing for everyone.
Highlights of the weekend
1. Mark Wolff on his first victory with us. Way to go Mark.
2. Me not hitting Marks shiny new paint when he spun in front of me in the rain.
3. Shannon McCue enjoying the podium for the first time in the Enduro.
4. Ed Baus getting his car together in record time to run with us for his 1st 944 Cup event.
5. Brant Giere for selflessly inspecting the integrity of the tire wall out of concern for the safety of his fellow racers.
6. John Graber for finding the exact fuel burn rate of a 944 in competition.
7. Skip Wolf for letting me pillage his car

+1. Great job by the rookies!
Love that track (if only I knew how to drive it). Shout out to Gregg and the Chipster, as well. Always good to see you fella's and it looks like you both found a little more zip over the offseason. Well done!

Special Thanks to PCA and the Mid-Ohio Region for hosting the race...well run and fun! thanks to the workers who pulled the 944 out of the tire wall as well!
Mark, we are about 1:46ish average in the 944 cups on the Club Course...my all time best on the pro course was a 1:43.8...but then again, my car is 944 Cup legal

That's faster than I thought you guys would go! We run 1:40 - 1:42's
on the pro-course and 1:42 - 1:44's in our Formula Vee's (FV) on
the club course. I'm impressed by your times and wonder what H.P.
your motors are putting out?
Thanks!

Thanks, Chris M, for posting this incar clip.
Me: White 911
Chipster: Grey 944 w/ racing stripes
Situation: Attempting to pass lapped car on the outside while Bill Frame (black/red 993) passed on the inside at T7. Unfortunately, the slower car didn't see me and moved left as I reached his bumper. Note the fresh rain drops on Chris's windshield.
(you may want to click on the playback to go to YouTube and then select the full screen version for a better view)
My car was completely unscathed (unlike my shorts) and everyone got through clean. Phew!

I had checked up a little to let Ernie and Mike (?) through in their SP2 battle (damn they were quick). I then looked ahead and saw Joe's two left wheels in the grass... at maybe a 125 mph?? I thought to myself: "This is NOT going to be good."

Holy Crap!
That is almost exactly what happened later in the first Sprint race when the gold 944 got put into the inside wall - he was being lapped by a group, most went right while one guy went left in about the same spot - except that the guy who went left came back on track, tagged the gold 944 and sent him into the wall. You all saw the aftermath of that.
So what's with going outside after the kink? You guys must have exceeding big units. Bad things happen when you try it.
