Not me! Can you post a picture of structure you added to mount the pins?

A friend's enduro car has the pins mounted on springs. When they're out they stick straight up in the air and the driver can see them, and hopefully act on it.

Another guy I know bought some cheesy aluminum hood pins for his Honduh. He didn't mount them very well, and the nut vibrated off the bottom of one of the pins. This lifted one corner of the hood. Did he slow down? No. The force of the air going under the hood tore the other pin in half and the hood folded back, not only destroying the windshield but also denting in the top of the roof.

I haven't qualified to join the club... yet.

Almost joined once, just after I finished building my track car. I've taken to the habit of putting my hood pins in the driver's seat when they're off, in hopes that I'll see them before going onto the track without them in place : )

I know one poor guy who joined the club before he even got to the track ... the front hood (which was attached with 4 pins, no hinges) blew right off the car while he was trailering down the highway. What a bummer that must've been.

I put the pins back in the post when the hood is raised. That way even if I lower the hood it will be propped up.

Scott that one made my day - that was hilarious

I am thinking we need to start a new forum called the hood pin club for us all to document all the bone head things we do to our cars and ourselves

It may just help others

thoughts?

I am such a "mary" that I have my crew (AKA buddy) walk around the car before I leave the pits. I have witnessed it and do not want to participate :}

I use this method too. Another solution is to drill a hole through the plate on the hood and run a wire lanyard through the loop of the pin so that when it is not fastened, it is flopping loose on the hood and (hopefully) very visible.

I was also a witness to Richard's induction into the club. At least it came off before you made it out of the hot pit.
