Default VIR Advanced DE June 26th - 28th

Registration is open for an advanced (solo drivers) DE at VIR June 26th - 28th as part of the PCA Zone 2 Club Race. Online registration is on CubRegistration.net. Lots of seat time and a great time of year to be on VIR.

This was awesome last year, only 20 to 25 cars in the group with plenty of track time. I will be there...

I'm in, anybody know if they will be doing open passing for this event? I never heard a verdict on the tests that PCA was doing earlier in the year.

I am the DE chair for the event and have participated in 2 PCA events with "Extended Passing" this spring. Extended Passing worked well at both events. I have asked Tremper about having Extended Passing for this advanced DE. It seems our timing is not in sync with PCA getting this approved as a permanent option. The trials will have all been conducted by then and it will be voted on at Parade which is immediately after this event. I will however continue to ask the question in the hope that we can have Extended Passing. Until then late passes will have to suffice.

Thank you...extended passing would be awesome. I have done this with NASA and it works great in terms of preventing trains.

Thanks for the update Brian, like Ted I've done it with Nasa and it works great. This would seem a natural event for it as it's all advanced drivers and a pretty significant disparity in car speeds from what I've seen on the roster.
Either way it will be a blast, looking forward to it.

Does anyone know if the passing rules have been determined yet for this event? Also, are shorts allowed or is it short sleeve shirts and long pants? Thanks! Really looking forward to VIR!

Sorry if I missed it somewhere since I don't visit this forum very often but I just sold my race car and thought about doing this DE as I have in the past and really enjoyed it.

However, is there really 61 cars registered for this group????? I know registration is down but are they taking as many as possible to make up for the shortage of racers ($$$) at the expense of one long DE train group? Or is it 2 groups?

TIA.

Great question Dell. I thought I read initially that the event was limited to 50 cars for DE. I believe the schedule shows one DE run group labeled as the blue group.

Interesting, even at 50 that is a ton of cars on track. If it was sub 50 and ALL advanced red run group drivers with experience with open passing then I'd be interested but 60+ with white/black/red all together. Gonna have to pass. I'll be up there to watch though as I am delivery my race car to the new owner over the weekend.

update....up to 62 cars now

We have confirmed 58 cars for the DE group. 2 of those are single day drivers (different days). We ran 52 cars last year and had no traffic problems. Because there are white drivers in the event we can not run extended passing but passing is permitted with a signal anywhere on the track as long as you are not side by side at the apex of a corner. We will stage with the faster higher HP cars at the front so this will also help avoid traffic problems for the faster guys.
