I was just informed that there are 30 SPEC Cayman S and Cayman's available. I guess that those interested should move quickly.

I'm trying to find out. Best idea is to contact Paul directly.

I think it would be important to establish where they'd fall into the PCA class system.

I think the SCCA learned a long time ago with Showroom Stock racing, that new cars are generally too expensive to make a big series flourish. Guys will do it, for sure, but to make it really fly, you need to wait until the cars are plentiful, cheap, and available as wrecks and salvage. That's why spec Miata is flourishing, and now others like those of us in 944Cup. Even the pro Miata challenge is too expensive, by the time you start with a new car, modify it, and then get all the spares arranged you're north of $50k and for what? To race a Miata? Doesn't make enough sense. Spec Boxster is catching on because you can start with a cheap platform now; they're old enough and high mileage cars are easy to find.
The Cayman will make a great race car, no doubt, but I'd rather poke around with it as a street car for a few years before I gut it.

Would love to know more. Those rules read almost identically to PCA stock class... which the prospect of a wicked class H + HSR eligible car sounds great. Hoping you don't have to use a 2009 car.

Thanks Juan!

Seems odd, Porsche has not considered the Cayman, or even the 911, worthy of racing. They only want people to race their factory race cars. This is good news if they are changing their beliefs and will support racing their road cars.

Doubt that this is a PMNA deal.. but one never knows these days. Would rather have a set of tight rules, PMNA support and ability to have your favorite shop build.

The cars will be sold as normal production cars through the Porsche dealer. The mods will be performed post sale by the Porsche Westmont Napleton Service department and Kelly-Moss Motorsports.

Both S and non-S cars will be available. Both will be 6-speed with LSD and 18 inch wheels. These 30 cars are the last of the 09 production run. Price is $53K for base cars, and $64.5K for S cars. Delivery is expected in late May or early June.
Please correct me if I am wrong. but I thought one of the main reasons behind this series is to take advantage of the lower prices for the used Cayman S cars. With that in mind, isn't it better to also have the option to bring any used Cayman S up to spec standards, and not force the series participants to buy a new car? This new car plan just seems counter intuitive relative to the current economic environment.

I just got this message from the Cayman Spec Racing group. So I think it is best to just be patient and see what will be the specs. From this message it looks like we WILL be able to construct our own spec racing Caymans.

... we are developing a CaymanSpec rules set (to be posted shortly for comment) that will provided exactly what you are suggesting. The spec is a hybrid of the existing Boxster Spec and Koni Challenge rules sets and will be identified as CSR (CaymanSpecRacer)
