I finally had mine out at buttonwillow last weekend. It weighed in at 2880 during the corner balancing. I ran it well for 3 sessions and was good for a 2:00.2 on config 13. The car definitely has more in it, but the fuel pump went and I had to put it back on the trailer.

While it was on the trailer, I ran a 2:19 in the touareg with ski racks and trailer hitch.

Does anyone have a parts cost / build sheet for the 996 spec? My 993 and boat have sold, so I'm ready. I'm really leaning toward a 996 cup, but am still considering 996 H/spec, and spec boxster. I'm in the SE, where there really aren't any spec 996's or boxsters yet.

What kind of lap times would a spec boxster run at Sebring/Roebling/Road Atlanta, and what class would the newly formed bsr class run with? SCCA?

Thanks!

Hi David,
The 996 spec can be seen at: www.996specracing.com
There were some build sheets at the beginning, but I'm sure cost of things have changed, at least my costs were more on some things and less on others. In SCCA out here, it runs in ITE or maybe T1 depending how much interior you have left. I will be running mine in ITE. And will be running it in ST2 for nasa.

I'll have to dig up my spreadsheet on the build costs, but in round numbers you can figure on spending around $15k on the build. You can have a finished car for under $40k including the donor car.

David, I'd definitely ping John Tecce with BGB Motorsports (no affiliation with me). You may remember him from Koni Challenge. He'd be an excellent source for finding out about building a 996 for racing and has been a tremendous help to me. Great guy.

If you can't find him on Rennlist, shoot me a PM and I'll put you in touch with him. Karl Poeltl with Racer's Edge is another great resource. You can't go wrong with either guy. BTW, Karl's in PCA racing a 996.

Your car looks very good. I hope to slap mine together for RA this weekend but far from finished form. Lots of borrowed stuff 'n duct tape. We have parts on order but i would say by June it will be all done.

Thanks David.

If any of you are trying to piece together the spring and valving combo. You should call up Ira at Tarett Engineering. He helped me with a ton of stuff putting it together and knows the exact combo that works.

I am running the swift springs 682 front and 900 rear. There was a lot of talk about the spring length, and I don't remember which length we ended up going with, but it works great. If you talk to Ira at Tarret, he is now an expert on the subject from all the research he did while helping me build my suspension.
