Default Visor up? Visor down? Visor off?

For HPDE work in a closed car (open side windows), is there a reason to have a helmet visor down? I already wear glasses, and I prefer not to have a third layer to look through.

IMO there is no reason to do so, if you are wearing glasses or sunglasses.

Down, I also wear glasses and use a tinted visor. I have had stuff come through my window and bounce off of my visor.

If its a clear visor then no. The only reason would be to keep stuff from flying in, which can happen. Personally, I prefer a tinted visor and always keep it down, but not completely closed so that I get some airflow.

I wear wrap-around shades to protect my eyes, and don't use the visor. Best of both worlds: great airflow + eye protection. To me, great airflow to the face, especially in warm weather, is of great value.

The only times I use a visor are when drivin an open car like an SRF, or when racing in hot weather, when I use the forced air feature of one of my helmets.

If you have an airbag, the latest safety studies show that you should have the visor down. If there's an impact, the airbag that deploys has been known to squeeze in under the visor. Apparently removing the visor is better than having it open.

Personally I keep it down all the time because teh wind drys out my eyes.

How is this any different that the airbag deploying against your face in a street car on the street, w/o a helmet?

I always wore mine down. I've seen too much track debris and bits of car coming in side windows and even through the windshield.

Venturi effect. Instead of hitting your face square as it was designed, it squeezes through a smaller hole (insert joke here) and at the high speed they are deployed, it causes a lot of damage

I wear sunglasses all the time because my eyes are very light sensitive. I generally run the visor open with sunglasses.

Visor down. I have gotten crap in my eyeport on track that hit me in the face. I wear glasses and even so I was lucky to not get stuff in my eye. Visor up is my perference, but I don't want junk in my face. I will crack it open when warm to get some extra air flow that is about all.

+1. I've never found wearing sun glasses in a helmet comfortable, so I got a tinted shield instead. On hot days (Canada hot, not Texas hot), I have a NACA duct in the window opening to direct fresh air at me.

Were these the same "safety studies" that proclaimed 6-12 months ago that one should opnly wear an open faced helmet in an airbagged car? Pffftttt....
