I think I told you about the NT-01s as well Dave. As far as the hot temps on the Nittos, anything over 38 hot, the tires would get very squirmy.

I had a set of Nittos then tried a set of the R888 and went right back to the Nittos as the 888s wore down too quickly and were not consistant all the way to the cords.

The NIttos are a good value as they wear like iron.

The Nittos are more like the RA1s than the R888. I run mid-20's hot in a 2700-pound car and driver combination with 275/315 widths.

I have just a bit of experience with both tires in a 996 that weighs ~2800lbs dry. The R888's in my experience like 38/39 front/rear hot pressures. The Nittos seem to prefer ~2-4 psi less. I've not yet figured out exactly the best pressure for me and my car, but it is definitely lower than the R888's. I experienced pretty consistent grip with the Toyos right down to the cords. I don't have enough cycles on the Nittos yet to know how they do near the end of their life. The Toyos at full tread seem MUCH better in the rain.

Give me a few months and I may have some Data. I am starting out the season with a new set of R888's and NT-01's mounted on separate rims. I have a tracqmate so I am going to be taking good notes on heat cycles, tire temps, pressure and most important lap times. If I can drive constantly maybe I can document any time difference between the tires and the tire pressures per tire. a good project this year. I will post any observations as i go along. Two quick observations. the R888 has more size options, the NT-01 is cheaper.

Yes, Mglobe has used both in racing.

Just checked the Nitto site and the NT01's really do not come in a perfect size for a 997 w/ 18" wheels.

I need 245/40/10 and 305/35/18....they jump from 275 to 315/30...too short a diameter.

IIRC we ran ours around 34~36 lbs depending on car (951 & 993) and tire size.

So, there was a question for me???

I run NT 01's on a 6GT3. I usually start 29-31 cold and I'm aiming for 35F-37-8R as hot temps. The tires are sensitive to pressure and at 40 in the rear the car starts to slide. Great wear as mentioned and the 315's in the rear don't have any clearance issues. Brand new the fronts will rub at parking lot speeds at full lock but that quickly disappears. I run -2.75f/-2.5r for camber.

Similar set up here just smaller tires. I really like these tires!

I am not running that much negative camber in the front i am like 2.2 front 2 rear, do you find that the camber required for the Nitto is that much are you getting even tire wear?

Frank,

First set of Nitto's had -2.2 front and -1.8 rear for camber. As I got faster, I wore out the edges prematurely. Made the switch late last year to more negative camber and so far so good. Only two events last year so I'll see if the wear stays even as we start 2009.

My Rears are at 2.7 Fronts at 2.0 (I do not have camber plates, yet) For the most part my wear is relatively even. However, I did have to flip my fronts at the last event as I was wearing out the outer edge rather premature in relation to the inside. Again, if I had more front camber there I could get better wear and turn in, which is lacking.

30 heat cycles? what kind of car? at about 20, i toss the tires, usually they are shot by then. (and some commuting miles )

They were, and they weren't.

Obviously, full tread NT01's are not like shaved RA1's until they wear down some tread, but they weren't bad. And they did get a lot better when they wore down. In fact, they might be a tiny bit quicker worn down than shaved RA1's. But they are a lot more sensitive to pressures/temperatures than RA1's, and they seem to also prefer less negative camber, likely due to having stiffer sidewalls. I found via probe pyrometer that they preferred slightly higher cold pressures than the RA1's, but even a pound too much created a tire that went away a lot faster, unlike RA1's.

As for wear, I got approximately 30 very hard heat cycles from my set...so excellent value!
