Default Hoosiers R6s........heat cycles......

How many heat cycles do you get out of a new set?

How many heat cycles before the "sweet spot" is reached?

How many heat cycles does the "sweet spot" last?

Thanks......

Paulo, have you announced that your racing or not? I tend to remember you had a date you were going to address your public, but don't know if that has passed or not.

Depends X3.

Cycles before cording: my last set I got 41 cycles out of one rear, 28 out of the other. 1 fronts went at 21, the other is still going after 50+. The tires were flipped close to optimally.

Sweet spot: for my DE applications, they ran pretty fast up until they corded. The real race guys will have better info on the sweet spot.

but to quote Professor Helmüt Tester

"More racing, less talking......."

Now, do you have an answer for the OP?

It's such a hard question to answer because there are so many variables. Like everyone before me said, 'IT DEPENDS".

I have a question for you: How much would it cost for a root canal for an 8 year old vs. a tooth extraction with spacer insert?

No one can answer this EXACTLY for you. Several reasons:

1) How long are the heat cycles?
2) How much grip feel before YOU think they're done?
3) Do you plan on scuffing them and then putting them up for a couple of days before running them?
4) How hard do YOU push them?
5) Are you going to flat spot them

I'm always amazed at how high of a number some people report they get regarding heat cycles. As for the "Sweet" spot.... I would say, for me, optimal handling would be after I scuff them and put them away for a couple of days, then my first session with them on about my 4th lap. They'll never be better..... Some people will take fewer laps (like 2-3) to get them perfect but for the average DE/beginning Club Racer, generally, 6 laps. I read where Patrick Long said his tires had optimal grip on the 2nd lap....

I've also been into my 5th straight hour on a set (one heat cycle in an endurance race) and thought that they were awesome.

I spend a lot of money on tires. Plan on spending a lot for tires.

Guys that I know who are really fast seem to agree that the sweet spot is the 1st or 2nd heat cycle and they have serious drop off in speed after 7-9 heat cycles.

It depends on a lot of the driver. If you aren't capable of driving to the tire's limit consistently, you may not feel a big difference between the first heat cycle and the 30th.

I think they are about cooked after 10 heat cycles. The lap times go down and the "crispness" is gone.

My plan for each race weekend is to put stickers on for quali and run 3-4 laps. Run them in a sprint or two and an enduro. The next race, practice with these and repeat the cycle for the next race. Thus I plan for one set per race weekend. With T&T days and an occasional DE this can work out pretty well and you can stay competetive.

Now in reality, I have a couple of issues: I spin so much I tend to flatspot the tires. I dont have LSD so I smoke the rears at tight tracks. Thus I average 1 1/2 sets per weekend.
