Towards the end it looked like the yellow one got cracked up in the right door. There was a story in Excellence about that car surfacing in the Vasek Polak* collection a few years ago *IIRC. I saw the orange one get greased a few years ago at a vintage race, if it's in fact the real deal. Thanks for posting.

Stolen pic.

Great! I've mentioned it before, but did we know one of our own here has (I believe) a brown one that ended up in Pablo Escobar's hands for one of his buddies/relatives to race?

This series is absolutely what got me interested in 911's, and when the 930 was introduced a couple of years later I focused all my attention on how I could get one. Thankfully, it was only a short 4 or so years later!

Sorry to say I only got to drive Riverside one time (though I crewed/spectated there maybe 6-7 times). Looking at footage I've not seen in 30 years, and a place I've not been on in 20 years, it's exactly as I remember it.

Just like they ran, every lap you'd be timing your guy and holding your breath as they came out of 9. Now if they ran the old Can Am course..............I'm sure there's You Tube video of that long course somewhere.

That's awesome! Bobby Allison and David Pearson sure didn't do half bad considering they were in a totally element than they were normally use to driving.

Great video - especially both of them sliding through the dirt - that's good stuff!

Yeah, great video, thanks for posting that!

Why am I not surprised Gordon Johncock crashed into somebody, that guy was a bit whacko.

I only went to Riverside once probably around '77, but that's how I remember it -- hot & dusty!

Anyone know when did that track closed?

Riverside International closed in 1989.

From 1962:

There should be a PCA class for IROC replicas.

The rules would be similar to the 911 spec class, but with the IROC bodywork.

It would be cool to recreate this video.

Remember, Grand National (NASCAR) ran there at least once a year. So at least they knew where to turn right. Must have been odd for them to go through a banked 9 clockwise, on a car with no (correct me if I'm wrong) no/little wedge or stagger.

I'll guess that the best of our spec 911's would be nearly the equal. A bit down on power, similar weight, and is an RA1 worse than those Goodyear bias plys? (I never have really run on a good set.) In any case, look at how soft they are in comparison to what's being run now.

I didn't look, but are there any lap times? I know the commentary put it at about 100mph lap average. I could probably extrapolate if there are some POC/PCA times from that era and get within a couple of seconds of how they would all shake out. Then again, if anyone here has/knows of an IROC car currently being driven full tilt, let us know!

What great memories. I attended that race with a friend - he had just gotten his drivers' license and I was still on the permit. IIRC there was a Brubaker Box in the parking area, haven't seen one since.

I miss the IROC series but it was never as fun for me once they stopped using Porsches.

The IROC dashboard stickers have been repro'd...even in the 901 pattern which isn't accurate.

I bet the 915 was just a little more fragile than what some of those guys were used to!

Wow the PSM really saved Allison and Fittipaldi.

Thanks for posting. I never get tired of seeing IROC Carreras.
