Default NASCAR test at TWS - top speed was 218

I'm on my iPhone so can't cutnpaste the link but a writeup is on NASCAR.com and jayski.com

Greg biffle was the driver - average lap speed was 195mph

Sounds to me like they need to dump daytona or talladega and go run that track unrestricted

The track grinding must have helped the track condition if he was able to sail off into the corner after topping out at 218 on the straight.

They not only did some grinding, they also put some sort of overlay on the turns. Word is that more tests are coming.

The same overlay was put down on T7 through T9 of the road coarse (not quite sure why honestly). I drove on it when it was green, and it was very slippery, but as the weekend wore on, and we put down some rubber, it gripped-up nicely. There's a possibility that the entire road coarse may get the same treatment. Things are looking up at TWS.

Indeed. And they also intend to fix the leading edge of the T4 apex rumblestrip ASAP, hopefully by our February event.

Here is the full post

Biffle fast in test at Texas World Speedway: With NASCAR's ban on testing at sanctioned facilities sending its national series teams far and wide to rack up some mileage, #16-Greg Biffle's Roush Fenway Racing Ford team was the first Cup operation to test at the newly-spruced-up, two-mile Texas World Speedway, whose last Cup race was held in 1981 and won by the late Benny Parsons. Biffle, whose history includes a heavy crash in testing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in December 2006, voiced his opinion on the speeds achieved at Texas World, but said nothing about a lack of SAFER barriers at the track. "[It was] very fast," Biffle said. "A little bit bumpy, which is to be expected of a race track that the pavement is that old, but just a very fast place. It's kind of a fun race track, but our cars today are probably pretty dang fast for a race track like that." Biffle said his Thursday afternoon speeds in College Station on Jan. 15 were the "fastest I've been in a race car before -- 218 miles an hour. That's getting her done, if you want to say -- 195 mile an hour average, so it was a pretty fast place."(NASCAR.com)(1-23-2009)

Is NASCAR even relevant anymore?
If there was one series I'd like to see go away in this current economy, NASCAR is #1 on that list.

NASCAR was never relevant to me but TWS is. This great track has needed some attention for quite some time now and this may be just what the doctor ordered.

NASCAR would be the LAST series to go away. Like it or not NASCAR is more popular any series in the US. A sponsor will have more people see their ad at a NASCAR event than an entire year on a Rolex car.

I know, it's just depressing.
Racing designed for the lowest common denominator.

ge'ez... Here we go again...

I shouldve just said "I heard a car topped out at 218mph" and never mentioned the word NASCAR.

I didn't realize that mentioning that word would make the topic irrelevant...

it is interesting how the rolex and other would kill to get a ride in NASCAR but can only ever get a road ride for one or two a year. Even with that most finish out of the points

Bashing NASCAR is the "in" thing to do for some.

it was interesting to see France moaning about how the economy doesn't seem to have affected sports car racing as much as nascar during a quick speed interview this morning... and his kids "I be a grand am racer" add makes him look like an idiot...
