Are you saying that the regional race directors may or may not follow the GCR? Yes, I believe I will be allowed to run the 3.8RSR wing.

No they follow the GCR , interpretation seems to vary , carry all correspondence with you. Maybe in your region you might have someone who is " Porsche " friendly and understand , as mentioned before , it does vary from region to region and for sure at an National race.
If you attend a National race and they allow the spoiler , then i would say you are good to go, with a 996 it's easy peasy .......

I have been keeping up on the rules since I ran GT2 in '05 (beat Goughary everywhere but the runoffs, the only National race I did not win).
You can't run the RSR wing, you have to run the GT spec wing.
it used to be you needed to spend a grand on an ACTUAL '77 turbo whale tail (if you could even find one) what a dumb rule...
An air cooled 911 now is more competitive than ever. But it will be tough to beat a 996 cup car at Road America, they should be faster on the straight (than anything!). I think my 996 cup had the top speed record at Mid Ohio.
A car like Musantes could be pretty competitive but he would have to add weight and reduce his wing, not sure might have to narrow his track too.
I might like to try a 996 cup in GT2 again now they the runoffs are at Road America, as accelerating out of the slow turns at Mid Ohio let the light cars get too far ahead of me and I have no desire to spend a week in Kansas (been there, done that, 20 years ago in solo-II)
I wish I could run my 997 cup in GT2 with ballast, I should have put in a rule request. now it's dogmeat in GT1.
have fun!!!

The SCCA GT2 rules now allow a spec rear wing as shown on the 993 bodied car above. Also you are allowed a front splitter to extend 3" past the bumper, and you can run an unrestricted 3.8 RSR motor at 2,380 lbs with driver (bore & stroke are open), also you can now run a 6 speed transmission. If a synchromesh trans is used you can reduce the weight by 1.25% and if a sequential trans is used you need to add 1.25% for a weight penalty.
Tires & wheels can be of any combination with a max cross section width in front of 12.0"and of 13.75" in the rear. This is measured physically at impound with a guage.
The 996 cup cars can run in GT2 but they must run according to Cup Rules such as less tire and a heavier weight 2730 lbs. The way I read the rules there would be no reason for a factory 3.8 RSR to run in GT1 when they can now run in GT2 with a wing more or less a wing change.
I submitted the 6 speed rule change and the unrestricted 3.8 ltr motor at 2380# rule change in an attempt to get a few more PCA racers involved in SCCA to increase the field size and hopefully the level of competition.
